15. reverse progress in Iraq

Iraq did not have al queda before we invaded. Now it does.
Iraq did not have civil war before we invaded. Now it does.
Would it surprise us to find out that Iraq did not have WMD's before we invaded but now it does?

One of the most idiotic "rationalizations" we heard for the missing WMD's was that they were smuggled out of the country. Like THAT was supposed to make us feel better now that they are circulating around the world and we don't know where they are anymore?

16. I feel so sorry for people like this.

Many of them are caught up in an insular little small-town world of church and Fox Noise that nothing from outside can penetrate. I suspect that most are well-meaning individuals who simply lack the capacity to formulate their own thoughts or opinions on abstract topics. Thus they are easy prey for manipulative types, which in today's political culture usually means right-wing, authoritarian neo-Fascists.

As Nixonite Charles Colson once opined, evangelical Christians are probably the easiest group in the country to take in with outrageous, improbable falsehoods, repeated over and over. They are accustomed to this. They treat their politics exactly the same as they treat their religion, including the need for characters embodying Pure Good (God, right-wing wackos and religious nuts) and those embodying Pure Evil (Satan and everyone else, especially Bill Clinton).

I would feel even sorrier for them if I didn't consider this attitude and viewpoint to be so dangerous for America.
