Live Earth 'breaks web record'
THE Live Earth global pop concerts have broken a record for an online entertainment show by generating more than nine million internet streams, Microsoft web portal MSN said.

As the last two of the nine Live Earth concerts got under way in the US and Brazil, MSN product manager Karin Muskopf said the number of streams had surpassed the previous record held by 2005's Live 8 global concerts to fight poverty.

"We have exceeded any other online entertainment event," Mr Muskopf said. "It's really exciting to see the enthusiasm for the concert."

An internet stream is when a person watches on a computer. People can stream an event more than once - by switching it on and off - so nine million streams does not necessarily mean nine million people watching, MSN said.

7. History Made with Live Earth Online Video
With plenty of music yet to be broadcast in the July 7th Live Earth series, MSN reported today that it already has served more than 9 million live online streams to users viewing the worldwide music event aimed at promoting awareness of climate change. The concert series opened in Sydney and then moved across the globe to Tokyo, Hamburg, Germany and London, to name just a few cities. The U.S. leg of the concert kicks off at 2:30 p.m. EDT in Giants Stadium just outside of New York City.

"History is being made today," said Joanne Bradford, corporate vice president and chief media officer of MSN. "Millions of people around the world have joined together to fight the climate crisis. The more than 9 million streams MSN has delivered so far today represent a milestone in live Internet broadcasting. We expect to see an even greater number of streams after the concerts are over as people return to watch their favorite performances or enjoy them for the first time if they missed the concerts live."

9. I'm so glad Al Gore invented the Internet
Okay, not invent, but had the foresight to push for funding for it in its early stages. Without it, where would we be now??????
