Why wasn't Springsteen there at "Live Earth?" He's BIG into Anti-War Movement
...does it mean he's just not INTO the ENVIRONMENT, yet?

He GIVES TO GOOD CAUSES FOR Progressive Left...but he's "No Show?"

1. Maybe he wasn't feeling well?
I don't know. He doesn't have to do everything, and it's not like Live Earth failed without him.

3. I wondered about that, too

I like him very much and expected him to show up at Live Earth.

Same can be said about Neil Young, perhaps. Where was he? And what about Dylan?

4. This Isn't Anti-War
Be assured those who have been making statements surely haven't been discouraged, but this is about the Environment.

Several reasons the Boss may not be there:

1.) He's got another gig tonight and couldn't work the date open on his schedule
2.) He had another confict that made it impossible for him to be near one of the venues to perform
3.) Nobody asked him

There are a bunch of artists who I haven't seen...most are "old timers"...like Neil Young, John Mellencamp or Jackson Browne (who headed up the No Nukes show in the late 70s). Also I was hoping Geldoff was going to reunited the Rats. Oh well.

Otherwise, we've been watching this almost non-stop since early this morning...the UHD coverage has been superb.

5. True...what you say...but I still wonder WHY...this has been in "works" for
months....maybe a year. I thought it a question worth asking.

9. Arranging This Concert Must Have Been A Lawyer's Delight/Nightmare
Considering all the venues and acts, this is quite an undertaking. I've been very impressed with how smoothly the broadcast has gone...few technical glitches.

The hassle with doing these type of shows is getting the people and then getting them there. Many tours are booked a year or longer in advance, so getting some of the bigger acts had to involve some juggling...getting close enough to a venue where they could get away for the 6 hours or so to participate. Then, there's the legal messes...drawing up contracts and figuring out what is "non-profit" and what isn't. I wouldn't be surprised that many of these acts showed up with their usual wierd requests for the dressing room...green M & Ms, bottles of champagne and the like.

Then, of course, there are the egos. Who gets prime time, who else is on the bill and so on. While I'm certain most the performers gladly made time to participate, working with bands...especially the high-flying ones...can be like herding cats.

Cheers...

:hi:

7. Geldof critisized Live Earth for not having a goal.
He didn't believe it was going to hekp at all. "It's just a pop concert."

11. So Was Woodstock
Honestly, hearing a heavily tatooed bass player tell me he's gonna rush out and replace all his lightbulbs isn't quite convincing, but I'd rather have this message than some corporate sponsor's logo splashed around.

It's been 20 years since Live Aid and Farm Aid....and can Mr. Geldoff say those events succeded in their goal...other than being a pop concert? Or maybe we can do Hands Across America again.

20. Thank you
I agree with you. It somewhat surprised me to see Geldof criticize the event so much. I mean, Al Gore did set up 7 goals for fighting the climate crisis, didn't he?

6. apparently he's recording an album
and so isn't in touring/performing mode right now:

Bruce Springsteen would be an ideal surprise guest for New Jersey. But Wall says the chances aren't good. "He's not on tour right now -- I think he's recording an album," he says. "We have to deal, somewhat, with people who are in (a touring) cycle." http://blog.nj.com/ledgerentertainment/2007/06/live_earth_allstar_shows_set_t.html

16. Bad news for today, but good news for the near future.
I'm hoping this will be a full on E Street Band rock album with a tour to follow, which would be perfect for summer 2008, because you know Bruce loves to talk to the audience. I doubt he'd do three folk-based albums in a row.

Vote for Change 2008, maybe??

I'm hoping anyway. It really is a wonderful event for the world. A start on the new direction we need to take.

12. I think the target...
...audience was the youth of the world...the future, so to speak. Springsteen and many other wonderful artists I would have loved to hear, would draw an older crowd (like me). Darn. :7

18. Hate to say it, but do not count on it...
I would not count on the boss to show for any political function. It was reported in the fan circles that he was disappointed that the "Vote for Change" tour did not result in a democratic victory.

Add in that there is still some bad feelings between him and Jon Bon Jovi resulting from the political activism...

I could be wrong. When Bruce is wrapping up an album, he has been known to start hitting the local bars and playing with the house bands...

23. The list of who he gives to is very long...
And very low key. a fairly well known example from the mid-80's was when he donated an 18-wheeler to a NJ food bank operation. The Food Bank was go grateful, they wanted to paint the enire rig with his name. He asked them not to, and they ended up with "The Boss" over the front grill.

sort of try their best to treat him like just folks.

26. What bad feeling? What happened? I've no idea about that.
And it seems out of character for some sort of despondency to set in b/c of the last election. Doesn't seem like he'd give up.

It seemed weird to me not to see him on the ticket because I can remember back to the early 80s and the MUSE concerts -- he was THE headliner for that, very involved.

31. I did not say he has given up...
He is using his clout behind the scenes. Remember, he is a very private person, and want to keep his family out of the public eye except for making music. Politics (and this movement is political) is such dirty business, that when he went out on that very public limb backing "Vote for Change", it hurt that the movement was not a success.
