Iowa radio ads urge Gore to run

Yoo-hoo! Mr. Gore -- some grassroots supporters are ramping up their efforts to encourage you to run for president in 2008.

The Draft Gore Committee launched its first radio ad on Monday in Iowa. The 30-second ad, dubbed "You Who," will go national in July. It features a chorus of voices seeking Gore's attention and urging him to seek the Democratic presidential nomination.

The political action committee, which claims to have gathered 94,000 signatures on an online petition, is not officially affiliated with the former vice president. He has repeatedly said he has no plans seek the nomination, though he hasn't ruled out a bid.

Eva Ritchey, the treasurer for the Draft Gore Committee, said drafts have been successful in the past and pointed to one that persuaded Dwight Eisenhower to run for president in 1952. She said drafts "are a legitimate political mechanism for encouraging an unwilling candidate to enter the race."

Until Al unequivocally and absolutely slams the door shut on a Presidential run in 08, I say more power to the art of persuasion! Though I think much of this is based on wishful thinking rather than reality, I must admit that I too hold out hope that somehow Al will be convinced and run.

My most optimistic scenario is Al indeed plans to run, and his waiting till the 9th inning (to play) strategy is not only saving him millions of dollars, but is an excellent campaign tactic as well. By the fall, only those DEM players with real endurance will still be in the game --- what a great time for Al to jump in!

At the moment, my support goes to Obama; though I'm keeping in reserve some spare gasoline just in case Al Gore runs. If he does, my first choice will become my second choice in a heartbeat!

Where are you going Al? Many here hope you paddle all the way to the White House!!!
