1. This man needs protection right away and treatment for PTSD.
My take on what happened (the murder) is that the whole unit 'lost it', all suffering from the kind of madness that can overtake one in those conditions. They need psychological help and healing as do the Iraqi people. Not jail time. That will do nothing but, perhaps, make their condition worse. It's not the answer. The people in Washington who put them there need to share the responsibility for these atrocities!

2. Misleading subject line
He already pled guilty to vehicle theft, he was out on bail when the rape occurred.

PTSD wouldn't surprise me in the least ... but the military doesn't "set people up" to steal vehicles, go drunk driving, crash into peoples' homes, and commit rape. Not even whistle blowers get a free pass to commit rape, sorry.

"Prosecutor Adam Nelson says, "There was a doctor who evaluated him who mentioned he is suffering from the stress that he suffered while in Iraq but he also added that that didn't amount to a defense, that he made some poor choices."

LT Vickers says, "It's definitely not a green light to just go out and commit these types of acts it just doesn't happen there are 100's of marines that have PTSD in some way, shape or form, but they're law abiding citizens; its not an excuse." http://abclocal.go.com/kfsn/story?section=local&id=4993906

6. It doesn't match does it? To feel horror at a massacre and not feel
it about raping a woman? Yes, it may be only one life, but that life may be effectively ruined by the trauma. Nor - while it doesn't extend to the destruction of a city - does it mean that her family will not dreadfully affected by seeing her suffering.

5. The military and its government have lost all credibility. If the
soldier plead guilty of stealing the truck, I would like to know the details, but will accept it. All of the other charges I will disbelieve until I see proof - you know, "innocent until proved guilty"...

7. He was driving a stolen truck, while drunk,
and smashed into two houses.

Big of you to "accept" that.

No surprise on the rest, rape victims are always assumed to be lying. :eyes:
