1. I love animals....
greatly. But yeah, they take it to idolatry. and ignore the slaughter of american troops and iraqi civilians as if it's just things that have to occur! (puke!) oh, and I'm with you, the moment Wes announces his candidacy (hopefully) he's my #1. Don't know if a Clark Edwards ticket could work between the two, but we'll have to wait and see...

6. Guess you missed the fact that the stud thoroughbred race horse had 16 screws
put in his "broken" leg, then his hoove cut down to the quick and 16 or more ? surgeries. hmmmmf horse torture.

8. They were trying to save his life?
I think the owners really loved the horse and they had good intentions. I don't think they purposely tortured the poor thing. But I was wondering why they didn't just put it to sleep when he was injured.

9. They preferred torture for their own selfish motivations.

7. Who said horse torture was more important than human torture?
I didn't see anyone suggest that.

10. Me either. And I think the owners truly were trying to save him out of good motives.
But it didn't work. He's gone. It's sad. A lot of people think so. However, they're also sad about other things...and their sadness goes on.

Come on, let's not make this a divisive, either-or thing. It's really not, you know.

11. Sadness is not finite
I'm sorry sir, that you think Americans, and people in general have a limited, finite amount of compassion. Perhaps your heart is simply too small for you to fathom others abilities to feel compassion and sorrow for animals, (who have absolutely no choice in their fates), as equally as they feel the sorrow and tragedy of war.

I can feel for both, and more....I feel compassion for you and your suffering from the rage that is blinding you.

13. Grief is still grief, one does not cancel the other.
I can feel sad if my cat dies, but that does not make me less sad that our troops are dying, or people Sudan are dying, or a friend has cancer... Nothing is that black and white. Is the horror of our troops dying worse than the deaths in Durfur? How does one measure grief? Why must one choose who to grieve for?

Frankly, I'm very sorry that the horse died. I think the owners loved him dearly, and I, too, would have taken any medical measures available to keep him alive. Wouldn't any of us do that for our pet? The owners knew the horse would never race again after his injury, but they loved him.. and had hoped to have him continue to enjoy life. There is nothing wrong with that.

I understand the point of the cartoon.. but frankly, it's a trite attempt to paint Americans as though they care nothing about the troops dying in Iraq. Which is total BS. If the cartoonist was trying to suggest that Uncle Sam was BUSH. then they should have the guts to put him in the cartoon, instead.
