"Seven meters... that's like 20 feet?...The surfers will love it"
Overheard at a restaurant yesterday. My friend and i went for lunch at this place that had the Global warming symposium on, and two guys in the booth next to us were discussing it.

One guy said he was afraid of what might happen, and his buddy came up with that other comment.. and no he was not joking. The end result was that they decided it was no big deal, and started talking about their trucks..

What people fail to realize is that beaches will just disappear..all over the world (and some island countries will cease to exist ...some pretty much have already..)

2. yes, the force brought to bear is the square of the sea level rise
The erosion is not linear with sea level rise, many coastal areas will lose much
above-sea level land like this 1 year time lapse:

3. Submersion and killer surfer waves
will be a small worry if it gets to that point. Those pinheads remind of the congressmen who blithely recommended sunscreen and hats when we worried about ozone depletion, nevermind the same rays would scorch our food and who knows what else. Right now, there's signs of accelerated methane hydrate venting in the Arctic. If enough of that shit gets out in the air, it'll kick off a feedback loop that'll have us facing a situation that ranges from reeeal fucking bad to possibly the end of everything, in short order. Think of a REAL global warming scenario, with a super Saharan belt girdling the planet, dead oceans, continent-sized hurricanes, and only the polar regions habitable for all but the most hardy of life.
