Via E-mailUniting to build a truly massive antiwar movement
An update on the ANSWER Proposal to the Antiwar MovementWe have received an
overwhelmingly positive response to our Proposal to the Anti-War Movement that was issued on May 31, 2007. You can read the entire proposal by clicking the link below.
Thousands of grassroots activists across the country and many local and national organizations have responded. It has been the subject of discussion among activists within virtually every anti-war coalition and organization. Most people we have heard from are excited about the prospect of the entire anti-war movement uniting to mobilize the largest anti-war demonstration ever under the central demand End the War Now! This is not the only tactic that is needed, we need a multiplicity of actions, but it is something that can provide an anchor to a widespread intensification of anti-war activism in the coming critical months. Rather than any organization setting the date for the march, we are proposing that several principal organizations come together to agree on the date and scenario.
We encourage everyone to keep this discussion going. Please send us your and your organization's comments and feedback by

The Turn Up the Heat Campaign initiated by the ANSWER Coalition continues to confront Bush, Cheney and other pro-war politicians whenever and wherever they appear in public. Other exciting anti-war actions include the Occupation Project initiated by Voices for Creative Nonviolence which will re-launch on August 6 to occupy the offices of Representatives and Senators until they commit to voting against war funding. Another effort underway is the Iraq Moratorium Project whereby people from around the country, on the third Friday of every month starting September 23, 2007, will take concrete steps to demand an end to the war. Veterans for Peace and other veterans organizations are involved in numerous efforts to cut war funding and to support servicemembers who are being targeted because they have courageously spoken out against the continuation of the war. This is just the tip of the iceberg. All sorts of anti-war activities are taking place almost every day. While supporting all of these efforts,
we think it is essential to have a united show of force, a demonstration that could bring as many as a million people into the streets creating a political shock-wave.
The war in Iraq is one of the great crimes of the modern era. Iraqi society and its millions of people have been devastated by the invasion and occupation. And every month the number of U.S. soldiers and marines killed and wounded grows ever higher. Seventy percent of the people oppose the continuation of this imperial adventure. We must harness all the opposition into a powerful force. The politicians won’t end the war. The people must act. Please circulate and forward the Proposal to the Anti-War Movement everywhere and with all groups.

What Should the Anti-War Movement Do Now?
A Proposal from the ANSWER Coalition
It is an absolute responsibility of the anti-war movement to make an honest and straightforward assessment of the current situation and to craft a strategy that can really make a difference. Every serious organization, and especially those with the greatest mobilizing reach, must be asked to avoid posturing, make an assessment and develop an action plan that will change the political landscape in a decisive way.
This document does not seek to address or detail the political differences between organizations and groups. They exist and they have been detailed often. At this moment, there needs to be an effort at clear perspective that focuses on one simple question: What will end the war and occupation of Iraq and what should the US anti-war movement do?
