Cafferty read my email tonite on Wolf Blitzer's program
On "The Situation Room, Cafferty asked a question, and he read my email response. Did anyone see it?

Question: Should dire intel estimates prevent withdrawal of US troops?

I wrote, and they printed/read verbatim:

No.

The "dire intelligence estimates" should have precluded us from invading Iraq. We're now left holding a tiger by it's ears, and it was too predictable that we'd end up here.

If US troops leave now, Iraq will descend into chaos. If US troops leave later, Iraq will descend into chaos. I choose now, as it saves US lives, treasure, and, just maybe, our reputation.

7. Yes, I absolutely did see him read it!
That's fantastic! Do you write often, or was that your first time? Lou Dobbs sends a complimentary copy of his book if he reads your response on his portion of the show. Does Cafferty send you anything?

Great letter, by the way. Lots of irony!

Short and powerfully to the point, while avoiding insults - that's not something that just anyone can do.

Thank you for helping my Army and Marine nephews and their families.

11. If my email changes even a few minds...then I'm happy
Edited on Fri Feb-02-07 09:11 PM by mw
I, a former military man myself, get literally teary eyed at times when considering Iraq.

And if my email was heard by maybe thousands, and was considered by even a few of them, then dammit, I'd like to think I did something to save lives today. Because the faster we leave Iraq, the more lives we save.

17. Every "little" bit adds up.
Sometimes people just suddenly change their minds. Sometimes it is a more gradual process. That's why all of us must keep at it.

Did you see Zbigniew Brzezinski's testimony to the Foreign Relations Committee? http://www.thewashingtonnote.com/archives/001916.php - Good material. I intend to use it in letters to my senators and some LTTEs.

Response #10 implies that you had posts read by Cafferty before. ...Do they ever censor your thoughts?

I once had something read on MSNBC, I put down Rudy and Jeb in response to their question. They cut out my Jeb remark.

24. I was actually still on active duty when Chimpleton went to war
I've only been "retired" (a misnomer for a 43 year old with another career) from the AF for just over 3 years.

I was an active duty officer who was against the war before it started. I was against it when it began. I'm against it today. I'll be against it until we leave. I'll remain against it long after it's over, and we're looking back on it in history.

That from a guy who has not been critical of our "wars" from Grenada to Haiti to Somalia to Bosnia to Iraq I and even to Bush's Afghanistan. Iraq is different. It's WRONG. And the wrongness itself guarantees a bad outcome. (Carl Von Clausewitz, "On War", says: "War is an extension of politics by other means")

Edited on Sat Feb-03-07 03:05 AM by Seabiscuit
Don't you realize that Reagan was so desperate to invade *some* country while he was "Prezdint" that he resorted to invading tiny little Grenada on a totally false pretext? Just to wear a scalp on his belt?

31. I do realize that.
I wasn't by any means gung-ho FOR Grenada. I just accepted it...Presidential prerogative or what-not. I was pretty young then.

Actually, of all the "wars" of my adult life, the one I didn't quite "get" was Panama. However, like Grenada and all the others, the do-ability of that war--which equals US military capability fueled by public support--was in place. Iraq didn't have the public support element (because much of the public saw and sees thru the bullshit), and it's descent into chaos was wholly predictable.
