A letter from my DINO representative who voted for the war funding bill:
Based on our previous correspondence, I wanted to take the opportunity to update you on legislation passed by the House of Representatives today.

The 2008 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act, H.R. 2642, provides much-needed resources to care for America's veterans and is the single largest increase in VA spending in its 77-year history.

Attached is a Congressional Update with more information.

My response:

No amount of VA legislation will ever be enough for the soldiers who come home in boxes.

1. DINO but are they corporate in Philosophy?

We truly need multiple parties (as in more than the D & R) that must collaborate per the wishes of the electorate in order to win elections and make legislation. The current see-saw that allows the same pro elitist philosphy doesn't cut it. I'd be be more than happy to vote for Gravel, Kucinich but not the elitist controlled DLC.

edited to add: I'm tired of hearing promises of a good game. We the people need the power of a binding referendum that can kick out imbedded politicians if enough people want vote on it.

2. My representative is a sellout.
I feared this and voted for someone else, in the primary. But, in the general, I held my nose and chose the Democrat.

3. I wonder what percentage of VA spending
came out this:

Three-hundred-fifteen billion dollars

(This doesn't include the latest war funding supplemental.)

This is the amount of money the US has allocated for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, to be spent by September 30, 2006, the end of the fiscal year.

This pile is 125 feet wide, 200 feet deep, and 450 feet tall.

450 feet is the height of a 38-story building. It's the hieght of the Millenium Wheel in London. It is also the height of the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas and the Louisiana State Capitol Building.

If you were to stack the money in a single stack, your stack would be 19,887 miles tall, enough to wrap the Moon at its equator almost 3 times.
