Father's Day - I want to donate in my Dad's name
Rather than sending him a gift he perhaps won't use or appreciate - this year I want to donate some funds to our GI's who are/have served in Iraq. He'll appreciate that - he's ex Air Force.

I was looking at this site:

Soldier's Angels
http://soldiersangels.org/

I was considering this:

http://www.angelsstore.org/product_p/min1006.htm

Cool packs for a Soldier, Sailor, Marine, Airman or Coast Guardsman!

THE HEAT IS ON!!!

Temps soaring up above 120 degrees some days!

Help us cool down our heroes.

For a donation of $22, a Cool Pack will be sent out to a combat Hero. This pack includes: 10 otter pops, 2 cool scarves, 5 tang with electrolytes, 2 water soakers, 10 electrolyte tablets, pks 9 wet wipes, 1 Thank you for your service card, 1 Bonus CD or DVD added. Plus, you can add any of the following items if you would like: Sandscarf 6.00 SA Mug 9.00 Hero Pack 15.00 Thank you for your continued support of the brave men and women who risk everything to insure that we remain free and safe.

I was going to add the Hero's pack.

And was wondering if anyone else had donated to them? And if so, are they for real?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I intend to do this tonite, thanks.

1. I don't know anything about this particular outfit... but I applaud
your choice of a gift.

2. That's a really nice idea.
I don't know if you can say I am a "support the troops" type of guy - I think most guys over there at this point should know what kind of fraud they are participating in and I do NOT applaud their choice.

But I don't rejoice in seeing anyone suffer, and I hope this makes it easier on them, especially those who no longer want to be there, but can't leave.

3. Quick Google Search provides no evidence of fraud
In fact - they're all over the globe.

I'd prefer something more secular, but it's a gift for my dad, and he's kinda religious.

I'm now leaning toward the backpack.

Soldiers' Angels has put together a backpack which can be given to each wounded soldier as they arrive at the combat support hospitals in Iraq and Afghanistan. When our wounded arrive at these hospitals they have only what they were wearing when they were injured and that is usually not in very good condition. It can take up to a couple of days before they receive replacement supplies and it is often weeks before their belongings catch up to them. These backpacks ensure that our wounded soldiers have a little love from home to comfort them until their family can reach them and/or they return to the states. Your donation will send a backpack directly to a wounded hero in urgent need.

Care Backpack Contents:

* (1) Backpack - fully unzips for easy access

Hello my name is SPC Jonathan .... I was injured when my truck was blown up 5FEB07. I was the gunner on the HUMMWV. My two friends, the driver and TC were also injured. I was fortunate enough to not sustain any major injuries. While at the hospital in central Baghdad I received a backpack with some items in it and your e-mail addresses. I greatly appriciate everything you have done for the soldiers here. It is comforting to know that people back home still care about what we are doing here. Thanks again. Jonathan ......

Hi, I was recently wounded in combat in Iraq..It was a pretty good hit and when I was medevac'd obviously I didnt get to grab some important items:) I woke up the next day and had nothing to wear or any hygiene stuff..my uniform I had on was bloodsoaked and unwearable..This very sweet nurse (in the pic) brought me a backpack full of goodies from you folks and there was even pajamas:) the hospital robes didnt fit me and I just managed to squeeze your clothes on:) I felt alot better with a shower and some pants on...all with your gift. I ended up having to go to a few more hospitals by helocoptor to get some specialist work done as some of the wounds were deep..I took the bag with me everywhere it was all I had..It was the best thing that could have happened at that time..I just wanted to say thank you for all you nice people do...Here is a pic when I was released...my nurse, my friend on the left and thats me with the new "facejob"..thanks again, Sgt. Cary -----

Wonderful Backpack September 15, 2006
Reviewer: Jennifer Prasenski from Brooklyn, NY United States
When my husband was wounded in Iraq he received a backpack from Soldiers' Angels. He told me he was shocked and excited because he had absolutely nothing with him except the clothes on his back which they cut off. It had everything in there that he needed. It is such a wonderful thought and idea that I didn't even know existed until he told me about it. After hearing that my husband's family and myself have donated one. I would just like to say thank you.
