O'Reilly, heal thyself
Reported by Chrish - January 22, 2007 -
I haven't covered FOX segments relating to the Duke rape case debacle as it has unfolded and imploded in the media - a lesson to be learned for prosecutors who don't already know better. Other News Hounds have done a stellar job of covering FOX's immediately apparent biases and the excessive amount of coverage afforded what is truly a local story, of little importance to the rest of the nation with no connection. But watching O'Reilly on the Factor tonight 1/22/07 live and unable to ff through the segment, one thing he said really got my attention.
The only guest O'Reilly could get from Duke was Stephen Miller, a senior who is the editor of the Duke newspaper. (O'Reilly producer Jesse Watters had his camera crew in Durham County, harrassing Prosecutor Nifong and several professors at their homes, after they turned down requests for interviews or statements.)
No, not THAT Stephanie Miller.Miller is a self-described conservative who characterized the faculty as "far, far to the left" and "radical", a perspective shared by far, far right O'Reilly. Apparently 88 professors at Duke signed a letter complaining of racism and preferential treatment, using the alleged rape as a case in point. Now that Nifong has been removed from the case and some charges (though not all) against the Duke lacrosse team members have been dropped, O'Reilly (and Miller) expect an apology:
"They're obviously, I think, irresponsible, these people. But everybody makes mistakes. They might have acted emotionally. All they have to do is say 'y'know, maybe it was a mistake, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have jumped off like that, let's have a discussion about it. But they won't even do that!"
This from the man who spent all of last week spinning and lying and lying some more about his own comments regarding the Hornbeck boy:
