Can a good Muslim be a good American (crappy email I got)
Okay, my fine friends...I resent my reply to this one but I want to send more. This is a bogus email going around so maybe you have seen it:

_______________

This was sent to me by a high school classmate who is married to an Episcopalian Priest.

Subject: Fw: Muslims

A friend sent this and I thought it might be enlightening. We don't need a revolt from within.

This is something Americans wondered about for some time now: How & why do the
Muslims hate us & everyone else so much? Doesn't their God teach them to
love? Can a good Muslim be a good American? I sent that question to a friend who
worked in Saudi Arabia for 20 years (and hated every second of it no doubt.)

The following is his reply:

Theologically - no. Because his allegiance is to Allah, the moon god of
Arabia. (What's wrong with the moon? You hate the moon?)

Religiously - no. Because no other religion is accepted by his Allah except
Islam (Quran, 2:256) (If you're a fundie you are not allowed to read about other religions)

Scripturally - no. Because his allegiance is to the five pillars of Islam
and the Quran (Koran).

Geographically - no. Because his allegiance is to Mecca, to which he turns
in prayer five times a day. (And our allegiance is to money...Las Vegas here we come!)

Socially - no. Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make friends
with Christians or Jews. (Sorry, I'm a Jew and can't go visit St. Patrick's Cathederal with you. My religion forbids it." Actual quote from a girl who just married a Jewish guy and we were on a business trip in New York City.)

Intellectually - no. Because he cannot accept the American Constitution
since it is based on Biblical principles and he believes the Bible to be
corrupt. (Bush: "It's just a damn piece of paper.")

Philosophically - no. Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran do not allow
freedom of religion and expression. Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist.
Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic. (Bush: "Heh, heh, it'd be a lot easier if this were a dictatorship...as long as I was in charge, heh, heh.)

Spiritually - no. Because when we declare "one nation under God," the
Christian's God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as
heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in The Quran's 99 excellent
names. (God is not so loving in the old testament...Take no hostages, kill all, even the animals)

Therefore after much study and deliberation (bet you haven't read a book since high school)....perhaps we should be very cautious (be very afraid) of MUSLIMS in this country. They obviously cannot be both "good" Muslims and good Americans. (Ha, ha, just wait till those 7,000 refugees come to your town!)

Call it what you wish....it's still the truth.

If you find yourself intellectually in agreement with the above statements,
perhaps you will share this with your friends. The more who understand this,
the better it will be for our country and our future.

Pass it on, Fellow Americans. The war is bigger than we know or understand! (You neither know or understand squat!)

1. I have discovered in the past five years
that many christians SUCK AT BEING GOOD AMERICANS. They conscientiously dismiss the notions of freedom in the constitution.

26. That beautiful vessel you have displayed
was designed to ensure the protection of the land of the free, not to provide a forum for a bunch of bigoted assholes who stink up this country while contending their shit don't stink, and attempting to use the constitution as a weapon against those they hate in the name of Jesus Christ.

You know of the buttons to push my friend. God Bless ya and God Bless all who served onboard the Parche.

and his allegiance to the Pope. This sounds like the exact same rhetoric to me.

You say you don't agree, but you've chosen to "share" this with us.

Why?

13. Why do you think? So you can see what crap's going around.
That's the catch -- agree then send, otherwise don't. The person who forwarded it to me wanted to know what other's thought about it because they don't read or watch the news. That answer your question?

6. "Allaha" = God in Aramaic (language Jesus spoke).
Edited on Wed Jun-13-07 01:12 PM by CJCRANE
Allah means the same thing in Arabic. It has nothing to do with the moon.

(When are the stupid freepazoids going to understand that Jesus and other ME religious figures did not speak English).

19. This Sickens Me
Why must we demonize whole groups of people because of the actions of a few?

I spent some time on Java in the 90s and was surprised to see a Church, Synagogue and Mosque lined up together on a main street. Then I came home to Texas and started asking where the Mosques were. I found them in non-descript buildings with no obvious markings. The Muslim community was, as early as that, living in fear of our brand of religious tolerance.

This man is an insane criminal - not a representative of an entire religion.

20. Apparantly, a "good American" is one who spends his life waving the flag and praying to Jesus.
Under those criteria they'll be asking a lot of folks to surrender their passports.

23. In the grandest tradition of "America-love it or get the fuck out commie..."
I'm the worst American alive if this nonsense is someones idea of a criteria.

This is an old chain mail that's been forwarded to hell and back that basically paraphrased; says to be a good American you have to be a xenophobic, close minded, bigot that wants their extremely twisted version of Christianity shoved down everyones throat.

27. Okay, the inaccuracies are too numerous to mention, but here's just one:
"Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic."

Not true. Turkey is a successful Muslim democracy. Not only that, but it is, unlike an increasingly restive "Christian" government here in the U.S., resolutely secular. Think about it for a second. The United States is roughly 60% Christian, and yet the ultra-right, anti-democracy conservative Christians insist that the U.S. must have an officially Christian government. Turkey is about 97% Muslim, and yet every call for the government to be officially Muslim is turned back by people who understand that Turkey's democracy will not work if the official policy is to exclude certain religions.

29. Here's Another
"Geographically - no. Because his allegiance is to Mecca, to which he turns
in prayer five times a day."

That's like saying about christians...

"Symbollically - no. Because his allegiance is to the crucifix, to which he kneels in prayer daily."

Just because a Muslim turns to Mecca to pray doesn't mean he has any allegiance to it. No more so than a Christian does to any of the shrines in Jerusalem with the stations of the cross, or the Wailing Wall for the Jews who pray at it. It's just absurd and ignorant.

28. Disgusting stuff!!!
There is NOTHING that makes me more angry than implying that someone's ethnicity or religion (or lack of religion) makes them less of a citizen, or means that their loyalty is more under suspicion than anyone else's.

Leave the witch-hunts back in the 17th century, and treat everyone as HUMAN!!!

'Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran do not allow freedom of religion and expression.'

Whereas the author of the e-mail absolutely loves freedom of religion and expression! :sarcasm:
