10. If Biden, Dodd, Obama had been ther and voted yes - 56. If McCain
had voted yes - 57

If Leiberman - ahh forget that panderer. The Republicans represent his mission for Israel. That is what he revolvea around, plus staying in the spotlight with money coming in. Every once in awhile, we'll praise his vote - not often.

11. People make the mistake of thinking Lieberman is out there on his own - he's not.
He is exactly where the real Dem elite and powerstructure are - supporting Bush - even if it is being done more quietly due to primary realities.

Think about how Lieberman really got back into office in 2006. He had PLENTY of help.

Biden (D-DE)
Brownback (R-KS)
Coburn (R-OK)
Dodd (D-CT)
Johnson (D-SD)
McCain (R-AZ)
Obama (D-IL)

Looks like some prez contenders don't want to be on the record?!

Johnson, of course, is recovering from major surgery--pass freely given.

7. Biden, Dodd and Obama
were all co-sponsors of the resolution. They are already on record in favor of it.

8. My apologies on that--but I was also commenting on my Senator (McCain-RRRAT, AZ)
You can be damned sure he didn't want to go on record with this.

9. GD is already exploding, may I suggest you put that info in a stand alone thread?
I know it win't make much difference. In DU world, a straight roll call vote still ends up being a Democratic failure, but people ought to be aware of it.

Anyway, thanks for the info--I jumped to conclusions I shouldn't have.

12. no worries
maybe I will. I'll see how much the place goes nuts on the issue before doing so.

A perverse side of me enjoys pointing it out to individuals who work themselves into high dudgeon without knowing the facts.

14. "My version"?
Do you have a version of the facts where Dodd, Obama and Dodd did NOT co-sponsor SJR 14?

16. See below
Co-sponsoring is completely meaningless if you don't show up to vote for the bill you co-sponsored.

This is an old trick that GOP'ers usually play in Congress when they want to appear "moderate or bipartisan". They get to take credit for co-sponsoring something, but don't show up for the vote.

I guess the no show means they didn't support it.

15. Not voting is not voting - "in favor" is meaningless
Whether someone is "in favor" of a bill or co-sponsored it is irrelevant if they don't show up and vote, period.

If they were "in favor" of this bill then they should have voted for it. If they didn't show up for the vote, they weren't "in favor" of it.

Sorry, but they're not off the hook for this one. They can't have it both ways. No vote, no support, no pass on criticism from Dems.

Not voting actually hurts Senate Dems because it means the margin between winning and losing is wider because 3 members who were "in favor" of it didn't show up.

I'm really shocked that anyone on DU would give them a pass for this unforgiveable behavior.

17. This resolution never came up for a vote
today's vote was a procedural motion, and it failed. It was always going to fail. There was never any question that it was going to fail.

Anybody who was surprised by this fact deserves to be disappointed.
