'Sicko' premieres in London

By James Reaney / Sun Media

LONDON, Ont. -- Last month, Michael Moore was in Cannes, basking in the buzz for the premiere of Sicko.

Last night, he was at SilverCity here, taking questions from the crowd after Sicko received a standing ovation at its jammed North American premiere.

The Michigan filmmaker was moved by the comments from Canadian actor and activist Shirley Douglas, daughter of the late Saskatchewan premier and Canadian medical founder Tommy Douglas.

"I think it's a tremendous film. Congratulations, Michael," Shirley Douglas said during the post-film question-and-answer session. "It's an important film for Americans, for Canadians. I think it's really important for us . . . we have to guard our health system very jealously," said Douglas, an invited guest acknowledged by Moore in his pre-film remarks.

Earlier, Moore had joked that he had insisted Sicko, his attack on the U.S. health care system, receive its North American premiere here just to see if he could force Toronto and Montreal writers to London. .....(more)

1. It's past time to get this dialog started. Can't wait to see the film.
US preniere is co-sponsored by Physicians for a National Health Plan and the California Nurses' Association.

If you are in the Sacramento area and can make it, I'd love to see a report here.

2. I saw the trailer for the film this past Saturday
The whole theater loved it, there were no disparaging remarks, and plenty of laughter in the appropriate places. I can't wait to see this movie!

6. Kucinich The ONLY Democratic Candidate that will FIX this.
The ONLY Democratic Candidate that will FIX the broken system is Dennis Kucinich.
Dennis Kucinich is the ONLY candidate that supports Single Payer Universal healthCare (Medicare for ALL). The infrastructure is ALREADY in place. Simply extend coverage to ALL Americans!

ALL the other candidates support MANDATORY Health Insurance and call it Universal HealthCare.
Mandatory Auto Insurance has worked so well. Lets do the same thing with our HEALTH!....NOT!

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.
