When did Obama become a Muslim?
Apparently it happened back in January when FOX reported that he attended a 'madrassa' in Indonesia. The local FOX-affiliated AM talk station morning guys just claimed the Barack Obama is a Muslim. It took them 20 minutes to get the facts straight, after some regular caller phoned in and corrected them.

This is what happens when you get your news from Rupert Murdoch's lie factory. These yokels have begun to believe their own propaganda. Once they were corrected, they just stuttered in confusion for a little while and concluded that they had made the mistake because he has a 'Muslim name.' Then they both agreed that it doesn't matter what religion a candidate is, as long as he or she is not an atheist. Great. As long as they believe some pack of lies, and don't practice critical thinking, it doesn't matter what particular brand of lies they believe.

This is why so many people in this country bought into the war: they watched a right-wing propaganda outlet for hard news, and they don't have any critical thinking skills. These guys are natural born citizens, but several friends of mine who were born in the Soviet Union have to pass a test to gain citizenship. I hope these people don't represent the majority of Americans. If they do I have very little hope for our country's survival.

1. Funny but my barber said she doesn't think she could vote for Obama
since he was Muslim. I informed her that he wasn't but I'm telling you stuff like that is out there. We will continue to live in a world of heavy propaganda unless congress decides to do something about lies and ommissions being allowed to be called news.

2. This is another "public presumption"
or "public myth". The Neo-Repubs know how the MSM works and deliberately target these to their base (for instance Philip Zelikow, Chairman of the 9/11 Commission, is an expert on this).

"The idea of 'public presumption'...is akin to William McNeill's notion of 'public myth'...Such presumptions are beliefs (1) thought to be true (although not necessarily known to be true with certainty), and (2) shared in common within the relevant political community."

4. That is exactly the point of the post.
A false story got carried by a RW rag (I think a Mooney publication) stating that he was a Muslim and attended a radical muslim school as a child. While the story was debunked and denounced - it was repeated again and again and again by RW media sources to the point that some in the public believe it as truth (the power of propoganda) - hence the OPs statement of when? Oh last winter - pointing to the time of the publication of the false story.

6. I see. I knew the whole madrassa thing was a lie.
I thought that had been refuted as well. Thanks for clearing my confusion. :)

5. Once again proving a point I've been trying to make.
Edited on Tue Jun-05-07 06:31 AM by Clark2008
I like Obama just fine. I don't have a primary candidate at this point, so my opinion is purely rhetorical.

But, I simply don't see our front-runners winning any national election - mainly because of the inept media and uninformed voting patterns of the "swing Bubbas" (white male swing voters in the South and mid-West). I can't imagine that a good enough majority of them are going to vote for a woman, a black man "with a Muslim name" or a "gol-derned metrosexual ambulance chaser." It just isn't going to happen.

While the South does boast a large black voting block and women do vote around here, the majority of voters are still white males. We HAVE to scoop up and goodly number of them in order to flip some purple states. HAVE TO.

It's sad how persuasive our corporate media has become in catapulting the propaganda, but, now, it's a very real factor in determining elections. I went through it in 2004 when the media simply shut out Wesley Clark, someone who COULD have gathered up a goodly number of swing Bubba votes in the Heartland had the media, you know, actually covered him and allowed folks to know who he was.

I don't expect any less (or any more) out of our idiot media this time around.

7. I am willing to bet that once the "Muslim" message went out...
they could have said he sat on the Right Hand of Christ as the most noble Christian Saint that ever lived....and no one would have heard...They hear what they want, then spread it around as if it were Gospel because it came from some idiot hack.

If FAUX was a REAL news agency, they would have fired that guy on the spot and apologized for the error...how much you want to bet he got a bonus check during a commercial...x(
