4. No. The process is just about perfect. With the political discourse as it is in this
country, we'd have a new Administration about 4 or 5 times a year.

7. Our Constitution provides all we need to throw the bums out
We have the opportunity every two, four, and six years -- they're called "elections." Our representatives have a tool called "impeachment" at their disposal. It's all there, if enough people agree. If. Enough. People. Agree.

As a Californian, I can tell you that recall elections are not all they are cracked up to be. For one thing, they are very expensive from start to finish -- just like regular elections -- and are subject to the same vagaries of advertising and persuasion.

We lost a perfectly adequate Democratic governor by recall, and one of the things Ambassador Joe Wilson said to us when he spoke at UCSB was "Regime change isn't just for Iraq," a direct reference to the political string-pulling that was coming from Washington to Sacramento.

Be warned.

Hekate

Not in a media driven culture. If we had a recall precess... Bill CLinton would not have lasted two years.

13. Interesting point.
I still argue that it's the people. I wasn't fooled by the WMD arguments. I am still not convinced about 9/11. Regarless of the media hype.

But in lieu of an intelligent nation of people, I think you make a very good point.

You changed my thought on a recall provision. I'd also say no. Not in McAmerica.

16. If you look at it systemically
recalls are driven by passionate and well-funded minorities. They operate laregely in a political vaacum. You have trypically a very large and indifferent voting age population and a significant but fragmenteed minoirty that like the incumbent.

Rccall efforts seldom fail because the passionate are organized, the opposition is not and everyone else could care less.

Grass roots organizing and coalitionmanageaemtn is where the GOP has provedn very succesful. iN THAT ENVIRONMENT in particular, the GOP would have enough signature on the petition to put any Dem on the recall ballot immediately after ignauguration.

Just ask Grey Davis in California about that.

9. I sometimes think Congress should impeach at least one SCOTUS justice @2 years.
... UNLESS they impeach the POTUS or VPOTUS. If only to keep these people "on their toes" - no matter how the Senate votes.

11. Our founding fathers put impeachment in the constitution but
they never in their wildest dreams thought they should let the people vote the """EVIL-DOERS""" out of office. The thought impeachment would handle it. It is a shame too, because congress should be able to call for that special election to kick the crumb-bums out.

12. Why not?
And Senators and Congresscritters, too.

I like a parliamentary system, where the goverment can just be given a vote of no confidence and fall. We wouldn't need to prove high crimes and misdemeanors to get rid of a dangerously incompetent administration.

14. No
It would just prevent politicians from making tough decisions, for fear of public backlash.

While I'll like to see Bush recalled, recalls would be a double-edged sword
