Kerry supporter for Obama

i'm a Kerry supporter from 2004 Primaries. if he had run again i would have supported him even if he was polling last. if he got into the race right now i would vote for him.

i didn't think i would find anyone i could really support this time around. i always liked Obama but wasn't into him enough at first to really get into the race. but watching him and the primary overall i have really started to like him and do care enough about the race to really want him over the other candidates.

have tried to keep the primary talk out of the Kerry group because some support other candidates besides Obama, so I didn't want to go there.

5. I'm another one who is finally getting interested in this election

I like an intellectual president, and that's where I see parallels between JK and Obama. And his plan for a phased redeployment from Iraq last night sounded mighty familiar, didn't it? He's got brains, and he's a good speaker and debater. Shows the ability to think on his feet and come up with fresh answers, not canned talking points. A lot of people could probably do fine as president, but the trick is getting there--gaining the confidence of a fraud-proof majority of the people and getting there.


We need someone who is a good campaigner and can win over the Independents, and Obama might just be the one to do it. He comes off as a lover of the people,of justice, of the rule of law, and of the idea of public service--all things I love about John Kerry. I do think Obama would set his ego aside and ask for plenty of help from his more experienced and seasoned fellow Democrats and not try to run things all by himself. His history shows his ability to work with others well.

I hope I'm right and not just using wishful thinking.

6. Can I jump on this bandwagon too?

Long-time JK supporter here, who is now whole-heartedly supporting Barack Obama. I was stunned by last night's results, especially because the polls had it all wrong. I was at the Obama primary event in Nashua, NH last night. It was packed, and the crowd would go wild every time the gap between Clinton and Obama started closing. Because of back problems (probably caused by standing since about 5:30 PM),I ended up having to leave around 10:00 PM, before the race was called for Clinton. I wish I had been able to wait a little longer, to hear Barack's speech live. The race is very close, and I believe it will be close for a while.

What do you think are the chances that Edwards will pull out before 2/5, and throw his support to Obama? I think the 15%-20% he's pulling would make a real difference. And he must be starting to realize that he can't win. He characterizes Obama as a "change candidate" like him, as opposed to HRC as the status quo candidate. So I imagine if he does eventually drop out, he would back Obama over HRC.

I think I've almost made my decision for Obama. I even donated a bit to him last night through Kerry's email. I just wish I was more decisive. I think in the end I will vote for him unless there is no other way to defeat Hillary Clinton and he doesn't have a chance of winning.

Are there any debates where he did particularly well, or any really good speeches (other than the one from yesterday) I would like to watch them online if possible.

The only one I've watched is New Hampshire. Prior to that I was still hoping for Gore.

Are there other debates before different primaries? My Tivo didn't find any but maybe it just wasn't searching ahead enough. I have seen Obama speak in person at a Claire McCaskill rally in St. Louis, and he is a very impressive speaker. I'm just thinking maybe not as good a debater as a speaker but hopefully will get better with experience - but then as I've said I've only seen the one.

I think that will be helpful. I've pretty much made my decision to vote for Obama but am still interested in learning more about it. I have been listening about 20 minutes and really like it so far.

Going way back to the subject of Obama's religion.

Obama goes to a United Church of Christ church, same as me. They're actually a very liberal (and progressive) congregation with a long and proud history of social action. One of my local ministers has been arrested for civil disobedience at the local nuclear submarine base and he was recently involved in the local suit to legalize gay marriage in our state. (He is gay, obviously, as is his partner, who was also a minister in the church for almost a decade.)

Obama's not a religious nut. The whole position of the UCC is that faith necessarily involves doing good works - helping the poor, fighting for justice, serving the whole community. There's a bunch of stuff about their history, and some of their historic stances, here. They ordained their first African-American minister in 1785. They led the first integrated anti-slavery society in the country. They ordained their first openly gay minister back in 1972. Anyway, I don't think Obama's religion stands in opposition to his politics in any way.

My experience with the UCOC is that my best friends in the world are a lesbian couple, one of which is an Ordained Minister in a UCOC Church. They were legally married in Mass. this past year. Until it was legal in Mass. she had performed civil unions in her Church. She came down to Ct. to perform my daughter's and son in law's marraige at a UCOC here in my home town. All of this nonsense about Obama and the gay community is just that........NONSENSE!

It's great to see so many JK supporters standing with Kerry and supporting Barack!

Thanks to the long-time Obama supporters for having the right vision. I was tentative but JK's endorsement means a lot to me. Not just that he endorsed, but Kerry's rationale felt exactly right to me. He's in a position to know a lot more about all the players and the situation, so his words carry a lot of weight, and the points he made really resonate with what's important to me in politics.

So, I'm on board and glad to be here, and appreciative of all the hard work already done.

In many ways Obama's campaign resembles Dean in his optimism and his belief in the people and his openness to new people and new ideas. Also Obama's background, like Dean's is based in service to people rather than enrichment. Dean went to medical school and came from a wealthy background, but chose to serve in Vermont instead of a high-paying New York clinic, the went into politics because he wanted something done. Obama was a community organizer, went to Harvard Law and returned to community work. He could have parlayed his considerable intelligence and gifts into a 7 figure law career, a career in writing, and found his way to the bench eventually.



Gore will also come along (still yearning for him a little) to unite the tribes. Obama is a visionary too, and wants a brighter tomorrow.

But welcome! I'm new here myself-didn't pay all that much attention until the historic win in Iowa.

There were two politicians that got me excited in '04: JK and Barack Obama. Kerry will still always be my favorite, but I think my instincts were correct about Barack Obama. I think he is honest, and has a great intellect, and can do this job better than everyone else in the field. And, yeah -- he gives one hell of a speech!
