I really think we should raise the level of discussion
Edited on Tue Dec-29-09 02:45 PM by NJmaverick
I think it's time we (I use we because I have been guilty of the things I will be discussing as well) unilaterally raise the level of discussion. I believe we should stop using terms like "haters", "XXXX-bagger", or other similar terms. We should hold ourselves to the high standards President Obama has set for himself. That's not to say you can't alert on tems like "cheerleader", "corporate stooge" etc but we shouldn't sink to that level. We should let the strength of our position and a ability to defend it be our corner stone.

We should all make an effort to stick to the topics and avoid responded in kind to insults and personal attacks. I know it can be difficult but we really need to reach out to our like minded fellow cyber citizens rather than just fighting them.

1. Food for thought, NJ. "No-Drama Obama" stays cool.
Not that that's easy for most folks, especially those passionate about our politics!

3. It's certainly not easy for me
I can just as easily be caught up in my passions, but I think it's worth the effort.

5. I have tried a couple of times in GDP and been royally attacked for the effort...but that does not
mean the effort is not worth it.

Good advice!!!!

6. I think you need to understand this:
Never try to teach a pig to sing. The pig never sings and it just gets mad at you.

IOW I think our like minded fellow cyber citizens are going to fight us regardless. That doesn't mean I think you should use the pejoritive terms but I think if you do so you do it as a matter of your own standards and your own integrity.

Personally since there is no chance that I will be successful reaching these people, and they're going to get mad at me anyway, I'd rather have the satisfaction of taking the low road. Only the mods are stopping me.

7. I always think of the other saying involving pigs
never wrestle a pig in the mud. The pig enjoys it while all you get is muddy.

9. ..
 Learned something about pigs and reminded me that a lot of the negative posts on PO are from those who seek attention in the worst way and the best revenge thing is to ignore them.

8. Yeah, it's hard..I've been trying though.
By expanding my iggy list with those who automatically pushed the wrong buttons and hiding threads that aren't even worth the cyberspace.

It must be in the air now for a cosmic concentrated effort to be more civil. Too bad it won't affect rw and those who need it the most, imv.

Thanks for your call for a more elevated level of discussion, Maverick.

Thank you for your post. You've reminded us of our better angels, for lack of a better term.

13. Yeah, I was all full of good intentions
when I went into GDP today and was doing just fine on a postive Obama thread about "Good News for Unions" and then some whiner got on with negative crap and I completely forgot I was suppose to ignore that shit.

17. noting but the facts,...should be the motto..lol
Some of you in this group posted excellent information pertaining to the health care bill and analysis of Obama's achievements via poltifact. I think that is the best approach. Provide expert analysis and supply documented achievements and let others do with it what they will.
