I think we need a change in our mission statement. Barack Obama is now the President of the United

States, not just a Senator. The mission statement should reflect this fact and the fact that we here are supportive of him AS PRESIDENT, not just as a Senator or as a presidential candidate.

Any ideas as to how to go about this and exactly what the mission statement should say?

10. Hi, DevonRex! Maybe the first step should be --

to PM Skinner and ask if a Mission Statement can be changed, or if a new group needs to be formed. As I recall, in setting up the forum, I first had to get a number of contributing DUers to say they would participate, and then I had to get a number of supporters to approve the Mission Statement. I tried to make the statement short, simple and noncontroversial -- and no one objected to a word of it. So the process was not too difficult.

The mission of the Barack Obama Group is to discuss information and news about the life, career, accomplishments, and presidency of Barack Obama; to provide a haven for those members of Democratic Underground who support the president and his policies; to discuss President Obama's policy positions, speeches, interviews, and other public appearances; to discuss President Obama's political campaigns; and to discuss the causes which President Obama has championed, including health care reform and ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Those who have a generally negative view of President Obama and his administration, support his defeat in the 2012 presidential election (in primaries or the general election), or who are generally supportive of those who do, are not welcome in the Barack Obama Group.
