Gallup: Obama support among liberals increases, among conservatives declines significantly
Gallup's breakdown of Obama's support shows that among people who consider themselves liberal he not only continues to have astronomically high numbers but that those numbers have gone up - from 85% to 88%

It also remains very high among people identifying themselves as Democrats and high among Independents. His support among Republicans has declined significantly

His overall support remains high

This chart is somewhat misleading because it would be relevent only if Obama were running against his prior self. A more interesting number would be a match up against a likely Republican candidate.

1. These are great numbers. So why am I being told on DU that his support..
among the base is crumbling? I'm so glad I found out about this forum today.

4. That entire statement seems without basis

So why am I being told on DU that his support..among the base is crumbling?

Obama's "base" consists of the widest cross-spectrum of Americans EVER. I truly, TRULY do not understand what part of "the votes of liberals, independents, moderates and even a large smattering of conservatives abandoning the Republican party are what put Obama over the top" so many of the "liberals" on this site do not understand. I don't get it. It doesn't make a damned bit of sense, this ridiculous, fact-free based "assertion" that Obama's base consists SOLELY of liberals.

Add onto the fact that 88% (an ASTRONOMICAL number even if it was 5 months ago) of liberals support him, and that makes the claim you mentioned even more senseless. I know that a few idiots on DU have claimed "well, I hate the man but if I was polled, I'd say I strongly support him too!" People who say shit like this are basically telling the world that they haven't thought anything through beyond what they're eating for breakfast that morning, so it's hard to take anything they say even the slightest bit seriously.

Edit: More recent numbers have Obama's approval among liberals at 82%. http://www.gallup.com/poll/124484/Obama-Approval-Slide-Finds-Whites-Down-39.aspx

5. I didn't even realize when I posted that the o.p. is from months ago.
However, a drop in ratings was to be expected, from those of us who inhabit the real world. My advice to liberals is if you want to get closer to your ideal world, just elect Republicans, that'll fix everything.:sarcasm:

2. The DU bashers make up less than 100 people
Sometimes DU can get us looking at things from a little corner perspective.

6. Not even 100. There are maybe 8-10 consistent ones:
the ones whose names you see and automatically know what the post is going to be. They're also the most vocal. Then I'd bet that there's maybe another 40-50 at best who do their fair share of bashing.

These aren't the ones who post thoughtful and constructive criticisms. The bashers are a small group but they dominate the board because they're very loud and make a lot of noise.

7. I didn't realize that the bashers numbers were so low when they
seem so high. I guess you're right - they are so vocal and make so much noise...
