“The Professional Left” Deserves Robert Gibbs Smackdown!
Edited on Tue Aug-10-10 10:28 PM by firedupdem

Robert Gibbs made a clarification of his comments that were reported by The Hill where he, heaven forbid, criticized some people he referred to as the “professional left”. Sam Stein said The Fuckington Post received a statement from Robert Gibbs and prints it with all his snarkiness surrounding it. I won’t link to that piece of shit rag, but I will copy and paste from it…

In a statement to the Huffington Post, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs acknowledged that his recent broadside against the “professional left” was inartful, and called for renewed unity among the Democratic community.

Referring to statements he made in an interview with The Hill published Tuesday, Gibbs reiterated his belief (which served as the basis of his initial remarks) that the president had achieved a host of legislative accomplishments for which he was not getting proper credit. But he said that Democrats, “me included,” need to “stop fighting each other and arguing about our differences on certain policies, and instead work together to make sure everyone knows what is at stake because we’ve come too far to turn back now.”

Robert, don’t take it back, those assholes like Jane Hamsher, Glenn Greenwald, Cenk Uygur and the rest of the “Firebagger Brigade” don’t ever want to work with President Obama. Just like the asshole Republicans, don’t reach your hand out to those PINO’s “progressive in name only”. They and their rabid followers have an irrational hatred for President Obama, I get their troll comments all the time. Their goal is to help bring down President Obama to “prove” that Hillary or Dennis Kucinich should have been president. I think it just pisses them off more when the president accomplishes something. Nicole473 commented at Bob Cesca’s place that brings this home to me…

These Firebaggers are nuts, IMO.

There is a hatred that I think started during the election when Hillary and Barack were at the peak of their battle. I had many friends who were very angry and bitter that Obama was beating her, they became irrational. Thankfully most of them came down after the heat of the battle, but some who have the power of the pen like Hamsher, never did. They have clung to this irrational hatred and are still fighting Hillary’s lost battle. Was that Jane Hamsher dodging sniper fire with Hillary on that runway in Bosnia? Back to the Fuckington Post piece…Sam Stein makes a bold statement “The vast majority of the reaction, however, was sharply negative.” He then quotes the one and only Janey Hamsher…

“Spiro Agnew — sorry, Robert Gibbs — says “the professional left is not representative of the progressives who organized, campaigned, raised money and ultimately voted for Obama” emailed Jane Hamsher of Firedoglake.com. ” Well, the Obama in the White House is not the Obama who organized, campaigned, raised money and ran for office, so I guess its’ a wash.”

How clever, Jane. Is that like a twist on words that you thought up all by yourself. Wow, I wish I were that clever. Jane Hamsher does not represent very many people on the left…if you go to her site and read the comments, which can lower your IQ so be careful, but if you read her commenters, not very many are progressive. They use the exact same talking points as Fox News. Firebaglake does not represent the progressives. There may be a few sane people there who are progressive but most of them are with the hate Obama crowd and consumed with an irrational hatred for President Obama. I don’t want to call them racist, but man, that irrational hatred they have smells very much like the same stench that comes from racism.

10. John Cole at Balloon Juice (Comment #50)
Here’s a better question for you all. Name one time the “professional left” has had the administration’s back on… anything.

Since the inauguration, it has nothing but attacking from the left, calling them failures, adding to the cacophony of outrage to the right, all while pretending they were moving the overton window. We’ve heard calls for every administration member’s head, from the left, since day one. All the while, the same folks pretend to be the base (they weren’t- the ones I have in mind were in large part Hillary supporters) and babble about the Overton Window.

Christ- Ed Schultz and the usual poutrage crew spent the last five months of HCR trying to kill it dead, with Ed switching at the last moment when it was clear it would pass. If you were Robert Gibbs, you’d tell these people to shut the fuck up, too.

13. This whole thing is nothing but the truth but THIS line:
"Their goal is to help bring down President Obama to “prove” that Hillary or Dennis Kucinich should have been president."

is gospel. We see it time and time and time again. The impotent wailing of people who STILL cannot accept that Hillary Clinton, that gorgeous brainy woman that I admire tremendously, got her ass whipped by Obama. The man has been sworn in, is implementing policy, and has changed the drapes at the White House four times and these people are STILL screaming for a Hillary presidency. And the Kucinich lovers I just don't get at all. No diss against Dennis but when your own party goes out of its way to reject you again and again and again and again, at what point do your supporters say "hey, you know. Maybe people don't think this guy would make a good President." Apparently that is just too hard for some to wrap their heads around.

All of this would be sweet if it weren't indicative of some deep, penetrating stupidity.

30. Amen, Number23 - they do not do justice to Hillary herself w/these attitudes.
I loved Hillary going into 2008 (have her book and everything). When the primaries came down to her and Barack, I even posted something along the lines of, "Whoever wins, isn't it amazing that the Democratic Party has as its final candidates a woman and an African-American - awesome." At that point, I wasn't particularly invested in either candidate - I loved both of 'em.

That changed when Hillary started ticking me off (her Angry Bumblebee moment tipped me firmly over into Barack's camp).

But you know what -- this woman showed the best of herself, the best of humanity, the best she could be, at the Democratic convention - I cried when she strode into the convention hall and called for unanimous nomination for Obama -- and even before that -- when the long hard slog was finally over, the primary dust had cleared, and Barack was the one left standing, she immediately put being a proud Democrat above all and supported Barack as the nominee of the Democratic Party.

Hillary put this country above her own needs and wants, above her own ego.

I'm so proud of her as Secretary of State - the woman is amazing. She has made her peace with the President. She has set an example of constructive humility, coupled with sheer brilliance, for the ages.

Yet... still some of her supporters do her leadership a tremendous injustice by continuing to try to tear down Obama to make themselves seem taller.

Shame on them.

31. Hillary is my girl
Did she piss me off a few times during the campaign? She certainly did. She and Bill did more than a few things during the campaign that were ugly, stupid and completely beneath the both of them.

She has really come up in my esteem since becoming SoS, even though I think she's had a couple of really significant and highly visible setbacks that she brought on herself. She's a human being. She has and will continue to make mistakes. But I really like her and have ever since she was First Lady. I agree with you that it appears that she is at peace with her life and where she is right now. She was absolutely GLOWING at Chelsea's wedding last week even in that monstrous dress. I don't think I've ever seen her look that happy and radiant. I am glad she's a member of Obama's cabinet, even though I always felt that she would have been better suited as Education Sec.

16. Those who pretend to be on the far left
and want Obama to fail are either trolls or racists. I know many liberals who are disappointed with Obama on particular issues but they do not hate him nor do they want to see him go down and almost all will work for him in 2012. I actually think Gibbs was correct in what he said but wish he would have changed his wording a little.

17. My only problem with what Gibbs had to say was that it shows he has
let these assholes get to him, and it shows. They are not allies, and they never were, and should be treated as such. I would suggest he do the same thing that I've done, and that's tune them the f**k out. But, I guess as WH press secretary, he doesn't have that luxury.

Doesn't Robert understand that these assholes love nothing better than having spats with the WH? It raises their visibility, while diminishing the WH. It's a win-win for folks like Arianna & Hamsher, cause they get to hit the talk show circuit, rile up their supporters, and promote their crap sites.

While I certainly understand Gibbs' frustration, it's a mistake to ever let these assholes know that they've gotten to you. Unfortunately, it's not the first time for Gibbs.

19. I agree with you, Tarheel. That bunch of gnats just need to be brushed off.
Let Jane go on Fox News and spew her hate there, since it's obviously where she's most comfortable. She knows who her audience is. Even "liberal" sites are now quoting Fox "News" as sources to bash the Obama administration for anything and everything. They have even quoted Fox "facts" about Michelle's trip to Spain and those facts were totally erroneous, as was proven by Lynn Sweet of all people. Wasn't that hilarious?

And thanks to Spazito for finding that Lynn Sweet column that debunked Fox News' lies. Of course it was an Obama supporter that did it.

24. I think the vitriol coming from the "professional left" caught them by surprise,
as it did many of us. We already knew what Fox News was capable of, but the over-the-top daily assaults from the leftosphere have been equally brutal. Robert needs to take a break. Put a new face out there, for a few weeks, and see if it makes a difference.

The "professional left" seems especially fond of going after Gibbs and Rahm for some reason. But when they start spreading Fox talking points as news, we've got a much bigger problem. There is so little responsible journalism anymore, as it has been replaced with Enquirer style character assasination.

If he weren't already dead, Edward R. Murrow would just die.

27. Just like the vitriol coming from Democratic sites like this one
has caught Democrats by surprise. This certainly isn't what I signed up here for, or what ANY Democrat signed up here for. Information, sure. Tearing the Party apart? No way.

Just look at the hysterics day after day after day. Just last night we had primaries that are really important. In Colorado there is a tea party candidate that won the Republican nomination for Senate and he is leading in the polls. Yes, I said leading in the polls. We have important work to do. It's time to put the BS aside and get to it.

I'm wondering if there's not a "divide and conquer" element to the vitriol" myself.

28. When you have "liberal" icons like Michael Moore out there trashing the WH,
what can one expect? Michael Moore and his ilk helped give us Bush II. I don't know what the end game is for so-called progressives. Are they longing for the Bush years? Let's be honest, a lot of the criticism is driven by personal economics. Keeping people riled up & outraged can be a money making venture, no matter which side of the political divide you fall on.

If I'm gonna follow someone over a cliff, it's gonna be Pres. Obama, not Jane Hamsher. :hi:

29. I think the end game is "let's teach the Democrats a lesson." As if
the Republicans will not do irreparable harm to the country if they regain control of both houses and the WH again. They harm they did during the Bush II years is already almost irreparable yet they can't wait for more, it seems.

And yes, I think you're right - for many of them it's a short term venture. They're just making money off the constant outrage they cause. And since Jane Hamsher is just a professional mouthpiece, Fuck Jane Hamsher. :hi:
