The latest case in point: The Gulf oil spill.

* blackwaterdog's diary :: ::
*

Seems like it was just the other day when the world was about to end, and president Obama faced his newest Presidency-Destroying-Katrina. Forget the actual disaster in the Gulf. That was not the most important thing. What it means for Barack Obama - Now, that was something worth getting crazy over.

So what if during the Exxon Valdez disaster, the media didn't even bother George H.W Bush. This is Barack Obama, and Barack Obama is being judged by a completely different criteria than any of his predecessors. Like the mere existence of A problem, any problem, is his fault. And even if he takes care of it, it doesn't matter. He can't "redeem" himself.

So the BP spill turned quickly into Obama's spill. And not only that he didn't snap his finger to stop this unprecedented disaster - he didn't even look angry! The Maureen Dowds of the world were, well, angry: WHY DON'T YO CARE?????????????? PLEASE BE MY DADDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who is someone, used to be someone or (mainly) told themselves that they are someone, jumped on the chance to poop all over the president. When James Carville called him all kinds of insulting names - like which he would never dare to call Bill Clinton - he suddenly became very "important" again. He was on every morning show, he occupied Huffington Post front page headline and Daily Kos rec list for days.

1. Wow! Another good job by blackwaterdog!
Thanks Seattle Girl for posting this~

"It's like every time that president Obama's calmness and thoughtfulness and ability to quietly and seriously solve problems, beats another obstacle - it makes people hate him even more. I don't know what's going on, but this just boggle the mind."

I know what's going on..they want to bring down Obama anyway they can..if they can. Oh, and screw huff post.

The "media" is crickets on Obama's successes but word gets out in spite of them being lazy-ass corporatewhores.

2. Yep. He cleaned up another pony
pushed it on around,

and they immediately have to throw dirt on three more ponies so they can continue to scream "Obama Failed!"

5. So heartbreaking. I'm not a baseball fan

but this came to mind and I can't help relating the two. Heard this on NPR years ago about Jackie Robinson that pretty much sums it up for me.

"Jackie Robinson gave his life for something great; heroes do. He chose to bear the daily, bloody trial of standing up to beanballs and cleats launched into his shins, chest, and chin, and the race-baiting taunts raining down from the stands, along with trash, tomatoes, rocks, watermelon slices, and Sambo dolls. And then he performed with eloquent achievement and superlative poise."

http://www.npr.org/programs/morning/features/2002/oct/robinson/

No matter What, bit by damn bit, our president is cleaning up as he performs with eloquent achievement and superlative poise.

Great article, SeattleGirl. Thanks very much for posting.

6. Great analogy
I didn't know that much about Jackie Robinson, or that he endured such things. Figures. Stupid racists everywhere, doesn't matter what you achieve, you have them around to be jerks. They'll never admit any black person is smarter than they are, and they can't deal with the fact President Obama is so much smarter than they are.

16. Yeah, from what I understand he and his wife
had to do battle in the neighborhood they'd integrated, as well. Thank goodness that in this day and age, at least fame and fortune allows you to live wherever you want. But it's just baby steps. We've got such a long way to go still as the humane race.

7. Thanks for this, Kind of Blue..
as a reminder of what Jackie Robinson went through when our country was riddled with that element that was so ignorant & so insecure that they lashed out at someone who was a different Color in sports.

<from your article>

" "But Rickey was convinced that the team would rally behind a single African-American ballplayer who would have the nerve and the gumption to stand the gaff," Simon says.

When Rickey brought Robinson into his office in 1945, he had to see whether Robinson could stand up to the inevitable taunts, pressure and death threats that would come. Rickey played the role of "every foul-mouth, low-life, bigoted rube that he had ever half overheard at a sporting event..." Simon says. He got in Robinson's face and took a swing at him, but missed.

"But Branch Rickey made his point: 'You're going to have to put up with this kind of talk.' And Jackie Robinson said, 'Well, Mr. Rickey, do you want a player who doesn't have the guts to fight back?' And that's when Branch Rickey delivered his greatest line: 'Jackie, how about a ballplayer with the guts not to fight back?'"

Very much reminds me of President Barack Obama..thank you for posting this, Kind of Blue.

persecution, and ridicule. Thanks for this reminder.

18. You're welcome, Tarheel_Dem.
Thanks for pointing out Firsts. When I think about it, I remember our first Catholic president (not trying to sound like a sage, I was a mere toddler :) But it put things in perspective. Persecution and ridicule he overcomes daily and that's a real blessing in comparison.

14. The crap that Jackie Robinson went through was so ugly,
But he did perform with "eloquent achievement and superlative poise", just as President Obama is.

9. I wholeheartedly agree with you!
"Like the mere existence of A problem, any problem, is his fault. And even if he takes care of it, it doesn't matter. He can't "redeem" himself."

I honestly believe the above quote. I'm not off the deep end on this or walking with blinders on concerning Obama. He is definitely getting judged by harsh and unrealistic criteria. It is amazing how quickly they criticize him and belittle his accomplishments.

If he snapped his fingers and stopped this unprecedented disaster he would be accused of blasphemy or practicing black magic.

Thanks for posting this SeattleGirl!

10. Here's a diary from the Archives of blackwaterdog on President Obama..
"The arrogance of being president while being black" (Updated)
by blackwaterdog

Sat Feb 27, 2010 at 09:21:51 AM PDT
Hello

I hesitated a lot whether to open this can, but I can't stay silent anymore, so...

blackwaterdog's diary :: ::

"I don't think anyone was under some real illusion that the election of Barack Obama actually means the end of racism in America. I'm pretty sure that the president-elect knew it better than anyone. After all, he saw it every day, from the moment he announced his candidacy. To some degree, he saw it within his own party during the primaries. And he saw it in all ugliness during the general election. For half of this country, he was "That One". No matter how big and clear his victory was. No matter how smart he is. No matter how decent he is. No matter what a true patriot he is. No matter how optimistic and positive his vision for America was. All that didn't matter. Because at the end of the day, he was still black.

I'm quite old. I remember, vaguely, where my parents been on November 22, 1963. I've seen so many presidents. Some were feared, some were hated, some were adored, some popular and some not. But all of them, without exception, were treated with the highest respect deserve to the office of the president of the United States.

That is until a black man won the right to occupy this office. It's been 13 months now, and in the eyes of so many, Barack Obama is still that one. He is being disrespected and at the same time being held to the highest standard of any president I've ever seen – and not just by the Republican side. He has to perform three times better than any president in history, and even that may not be enough.

For the media, he is many more times just "Obama" than "President Obama". They create scandals out of nothing issues. It took them at least 6 years to start giving Bush a small part of the shit he deserved. It took them 6 months to begin crap all over Obama because he's yet to fix the catastrophe that was left for him.

They use condescending tone when they talk about him, and only mildly less condescending when they talk TO him. With anyone else, CNN wouldn't dare go to commercials every time the president speaks, like they did during that summit on Thursday. They wouldn't dare counting how many minutes George Bush or Bill Clinton were talking. Chris Mathews wouldn't dare making an issue out of Ronald Regan calling members of congress by their first name, like he is not actually the freaking president. They fully cooperate with the Right-Wing smear machine when it comes to president Obama's national security performance – even if almost every independent and military expert actually thinks that he's a terrific Commander in Chief. You'll never see them on TV, and virtually no one from the Left, in congress and outside, defend the president on this matter.

I don't care about the Far-Right. They're just crazy ignorant Neanderthals. It's the way the beltway and the mainstream treats this president that is shocking. On Thursday, almost every Republican had no trouble interrupting him in the middle of a sentence. They looked like they're going to vomit every time they had to say "Mr. president". They all had this Eric-Cantor-Smirk whenever he spoke.

They have 6 & 1/2 more years to let it soak into their peabrains that Obama is their President and they're acting little whiney bullies on the playground.

11. Ab-so-FREAKING-lutely

Where has this guy been? Some of us have been saying this for over a year.

15. My thoughts exactly
The MSM, both left and right, feel the need to pile on President Obama at the drop of a hat. Yet we seldom here of all the good things he has done for America.

I always remind myself that the "news" is mostly commentary and is an extension of some large corporation. They are working in their own best interest, not ours.
