Well, that does it - I expect the next two weeks in the left blogosphere to be filled with OUTRAGE.

Well, that does it - I expect the next two weeks in the left blogosphere to be filled with OUTRAGE.
For the record, the politics/strategy of appointing Petraeus makes sense to me. It seems to me Obama has essentially taken away any excuses the Congressional GOP might have in regard to not confirming McChrystal's successor - which they would drag their feet on, even if meant the entire Afghanistan strategy might fall apart.

But, I'm expecting to see many "Obama's betrayal of the left is complete"-type headlines and rants in the coming days. I don't feel that that is true. But I also feel I have politically grown up a lot since the "Petreaus/Betray Us" days.

1. Petraeus actually makes sense--he's already running an operation of this size
in Iraq, and he's fairly moderate politically for a general.

4. President Obama is totally behind this war. I disagree with that
but since he is gonna run the war, might as well get a guy with a good track record to administer it.

I hope Petraeus calls it a win and we get out of there soon.

6. Agree with your sentiments. I just doubt we can 'win' this thing and
really would like an exit plan. Based on the bits and pieces I heard today, I don't think it's going to come anytime soon.

7. Hey, FiredUpDem - do you mean a new exit plan --
-- over the one Obama announced last year? This week the WH said the July 2011 date for beginning withdrawal is "still firm." (We'll see -- but as of now, they're still with the plan to start a drawdown next year).

12. Is that date for Afghanistan? I was thinking we had one for Iraq
but not Afghanistan. I've been out of the loop though. :dunce:

8. Maybe I'm off base but I really believe Obama does not want
us to be in this war.
I believe that he truly wants to Keep America SAFE.

Cheney Co wanted to keep us in wars all the time , their buddies made $$$$'s off of the Wars.
They did it for their personal gain and power.

Why would he want to continue this war if he could say, "STOP IT RIGHT NOW!"

That would win him votes/higher poll numbers for the moment but I strongly believe that he knows something more than we know.Much more ~

So I won't quarterback from my keyboard.

9. This would be exactly the same as the last two weeks, and the two weeks
before that, and the two weeks before that and like the two weeks after the next two weeks and the two weeks after that.
