Joe Barton
needs to get a clue. (I want to say worse but mama taught me better)

In the committee today he said he was ashamed of what happened in the White House yesterday.

He called it a shakedown of BP which is creating a slush fund of unprecedented proportions.

He said the Holder should not have participated in a 20 billion dollar trust fund.

1. White House reply
"What is shameful is that Joe Barton seems to have more concern for big corporations that caused this disaster than the fishermen, small business owners and communities whose lives have been devastated by the destruction. Congressman Barton may think that a fund to compensate these Americans is a 'tragedy', but most Americans know that the real tragedy is what the men and women of the Gulf Coast are going through right now. Members from both parties should repudiate his comments."

3. I can imagine what the people who lost
their livlihoods and culture must think of this joe barton.

Good call to "repudiate" his remarks. Who would want to be associated with that..especially around the Gulf states?

6. HA! Way to get out on a limb with
your own big mouth, joe barton. Kinda like the steve king of racial obbsession only this guy is Texas oil.

<snip>

"Barton, who holds a safe seat in Texas, is saying what the leading edge of tea partyers and conservatives are saying -- no matter whether it's good politics, his first worry about the response to the disaster is that it will empower the federal government. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said this to me on Tuesday, and Dick Armey said it to me yesterday when I told him about the $20 billion compromise.

Conservatives are reacting instinctively, and the fact that "pay czar" Ken Feinberg will be running the fund leaves an immediate bad taste in their mouths. But Democrats see an opportunity here to discredit the GOP's rhetoric in support of small government."

<snip>

"Not only is the compensation fund that was created yesterday... not a slush fund, and not a shakedown," said Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) speaking shortly after Barton, "rather it was the government of the United States working to protect the most vulnerable citizens we have in our country right now. It is BP's spill, but it is America's ocean."

So they don't like Ken Feinberg..that's another badge of honor he wears.

Repubs don't support "small government" ..they support corrupt government.

10. Just heard Barton give a half-hearted apology "if his earlier comments were misconstrued..."
WTF?

He said he was "ashamed" of the "shakedown" of BP by the WH and the Atty. General of the United States.

Very clear. No leeway to be misconstrued.

What a piece of work.

16. At first I was so freaked out it blew my mind. But then I realized
it's actually a gift because it shows the Repugs for who they are and hopefully will help us in the midterms. I've sent two emails to this pond of scum. I tried to call his office but his voice mail was full. I kinda think the messages expressed people's outrage.
