Obama looking for 'whose ass to kick'

By the CNN Wire Staff
June 7, 2010 7:55 p.m. EDT

(CNN) -- President Barack Obama bluntly defended his administration's response to the undersea gusher fouling the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, telling an interviewer he has met with experts to learn "whose ass to kick."

"I was down there a month ago, before most of these talking heads were even paying attention to the Gulf," Obama told NBC's "Today" show in an interview scheduled to air Tuesday. "A month ago I was meeting with fishermen down there, standing in the rain talking about what a potential crisis this could be."

A variety of critics have accused Obama of being too cerebral in his reaction to the undersea gusher now fouling the Gulf of Mexico, of failing to put the full force of the administration and of putting too much trust in oil company BP. But Obama told NBC his deliberations have been more than academic.

"I don't sit around talking to experts because this is a college seminar," Obama continued. "We talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick."

3. When someone accuses Obama of being
"too cerebral"..consider the source. What has been their agenda since day one?

6. President Jed Bartlet was a Nobel laureate and professor of economics
and this sounds exactly like something Sorkin would have written for the show.

Being bright doesn't mean you can't give in to your base instincts. If I were him I'd be looking for an ass to kick too.

8. I think the interviewer was baiting him.
And if this is our president losing his composure, he was pretty well composed.

I know what you mean, I think, in wishing that maybe he would in every instance rise above it.

But I didn't mind his coming out with a little snark, I think it was sincere.

9. If it was sincere, great
I don't care whether he rises above anything in particular or not. I just care that he remain true to his core values and not let this numbifyingly idiotic media convince him that some righteous indignation is all it will take to sedate the masses.

And what's worse, is the people on this board who truly believe this is going to make a hill of beans difference to one single soul on the gulf. Those people have already said they don't blame BP, they want the oil jobs, they just want whoever cut corners to be held responsible. Miles apart from the kind of bankruptcy and receivership, death to BP, cries on this board. So the left gets all excited because Obama said he wanted to kick an ass. So what happens in a month when not enough asses are kicked. Well then they all boo hoo about being lied to again.

This annoys me every single time there is some new DU hero because somebody has a little rant and swears. It doesn't change anything. It's just an momentary emotional fix, political highs and lows that never go anywhere.

12. Imv, the President is
always sincere. There's no way he's pacifying the mediawhores.

Does not anyone think Obama knows how to "kick ass"..or say anything he wrote about in his books?

11. I'm with you. This doesn't make me proud or strike me as particularly humorous
And I too am saddened that he felt the need to go this route just to get the chattering imbeciles off of his back.
