What is it that Rahm did exactly?
Edited on Mon Feb-08-10 08:31 PM by FrenchieCat
Because to some, he is the devil reincarnated.

Here's what I know:

He was running the DCCC starting in 2004, and recruited a lot of the Democrats that won
in districts that were previously held by Republicans, which is how
we won a majority in 2006. Those Democrats are quite conservative,
because again, they won in conservative districts and the seats won
were once held by Republicans.

He also had some kind of "run-in" with Howard Dean at some point,
although I don't know the particulars on that. Problem is I'm not
sure how having a run-in with Howard Dean makes one the Devil.
Can someone please share with me....because When I look at Rahm's actual
voting record, I don't get the "DLC" part of things, in that
he wasn't a conserdem while he was in office.

2. Good question, Frenchie - surprising to see how actually progressive Rahm is.
But you know, anything will set some people off.

3. I don't think there is a real reason. Nobody is able to give one..
they just say he was a DLC'er. That means jack to me in the grand scheme of things...I'm told I'm a DLC'er once a week here.

Then there is a mad poster who thinks he was mean to Dean. Gawwdd...depressing posts... I never read them.

5. Thanks for the Big picture on Rahm..
He's the President's Chief of Staff and Obama has him around for a reason. It can't be easy fighting corruption in DC. Fuck No.

6. I have asked the same question. Apparently, he slighted some progressives and they never got over
it and would rather tank the party than accept that Rahm is Obama's Chief of Staff.

10. Also he made some money in the strong economy some years back
so he is EVIL and CORPORATE BEHOLDEN and he HAS to be DESTROYED, man. FUCK the establishment.

Seriously, I'm only 24 and I'm getting the sense that I'm actually past the mental age of most of DU. They seem to all be stuck in their "FUCK THE ESTABLISHMENT, FIGHT THE MACHINE" phase of life.

It's fine not to trust the government completely. It's perfectly OK to question authority.

But to scream and bitch and cry and moan every time someone like Rahm Emanuel calls a spade a spade, or happens to make more money than you, or happens to have a slightly different policy position than you is just utter lunacy.

7. he called progressives who want to bring down moderate dems fucking retarded?
I'm obviously guessing but judging by how some progressives act like thin skinned petculant children I'd not be surprised.

8. Progressives have been screaming
about Rahm long before he made the "fucking retarded" statement. I saw a comment that said if President Obama would fire Rahm they might start donating to GOTV again. That's a bunch of bs because they would find something else to bash the president about. I am so tired of the statement "progressives put Obama in the White House". Right, progressives are the only ones that GOTV for Obama. More bs for sure.

9. Agreed.
There were LOTS of people who helped get Obama elected, including voters who normally vote Republican. I think some people who label themselves as Progressive are actually "Stick it in your ear if you don't do things MY way" people.

13. A Republican walked with me
to knock on doors. He was concerned about my safety. Redneck area *alert* you know. I think he voted for Obama
but I would never ask him. Progressives and others have this "do what I tell you to do" attitude.

11. No they're not.
People who AREN'T fire-breathing liberals put Obama in office. They liked the fact that he would bring a brain and a natural curiosity back to the big chair. I'm just a liberal--but I'm a Rahm Emanuel liberal in that I would rather help my own team get things done than kick other Democrats in the shins.

Not saying that some Dems don't deserve a bat to the side of the head, though.

12. Your thread in GD on this was illuminating, to say the least
As usual, the Perpetually Pompous were the first to run to your thread spreading their "pearls of wisdom" while as expected, not saying one damn thing. The froth and cheese coming from them had me HOWLING with laughter. God, some people are so far up their own asses they can't see anything but brown.

But I got to one post that had actual information in it. True, it did seem to be some really minor issues (at least to me) that have caused this Rahm/liberal split and most of it seems to be centered around personality (I thought it was only Obama SUPPORTERS who were so caught up in personalities??) but I appreciated that this poster had at least put SOME thought and insight into her disagreements with Rahm and wasn't just doing it to jump on the raggedy DU bandwagon.

16. On point there is a thread with 82 recs castigating Emanuel for ruining HC

However if you actually read the article its castigating Emanuel for being too tough on the Republicans in not seeking out a more bipartisan approach while all of the comments on the thread were damning Emanuel for being too concilitory with the Republicans.

So they will rec a thread that criticizes RE even though it is 180 degrees the opposite of their own sentiment, lol.
