4. The painful bit about this is that Stephanie Tubbs Jones is a gutsy person -
She stood up with Barbara Boxer to contest the counting of Ohio electors after the theft of the 2004 election. I saw Tubbs-Jones speak in Ohio before the contested those votes and I was impressed with her.

12. I do recall that, and good for her.. but
she was off base with this comment. It was a stupid thing to say.

2. Well, if Africa is a country the way the Preznit says it is, then...
No, wait! Obama is a native Amurkan!

There's that saying in Tennessee, well at least it's in Texas, fool me once, can't get fooled again...

3. I really want to think that was just an unfortunate choice of words
I respect Stephanie Tubbs Jones too much to believe she was doing what it seemed she was doing.

6. Did you see her on the MSM after the 'Shame on you Barack '
hysteria on Sunday? Stephanie was right in there as I say 'Hollerin' for Hillary'. Seriously, I have supported Tubbs Jones in the past but this type of rant is beyond me.

7. I would hope so, too ...
but in light of the months-long whispering campaign, that began with the "Manchurian candidate" email and that suggests that Obama might not be a true American, it's hard not to see this kind of "mistake" as something that furthers that agenda. Sort of like the way Kennedy was subjected to questions about whether he might owe fealty to the Pope above the nation.

Barack Obama is an American. In the same way that my parents, children of immigrants to this country, are Americans. In the same way that many voters born of immigrant parents are Americans.

This is really disturbing to me. Obama's "otherness" is what is at stake here. He can't be compared to Jesse Jackson any longer, so now the constant undercurrent is that he is somehow foreign, or exotic, or not quite as American as you or I. Such slips of the tongue don't seem fully accidental.

5. Ms. Tubbs Jones is off her feed.
She use to make some sense but she has lost all credibility with me now. Another Ohioan making us proud. First our new Dem Governor bobble heads his way into history as a backdrop for Hillary and now this. It is a loss for all Dems really.

10. I suppose we could say Africa
is Tubbs-Jones' first continent. She isn't doing her career any good by dishing out this subversive "Fox" rhetoric. If she was smart, she'd get a retraction out there quick. Unless this was scripted by the Hillary goons.

...and couldn't freaking believe my eyes/ears.

...of his country. If I'm not mistaken that's his grandmother's nation.

Obama is an AMERICAN. AMERICA is his country...what a dumbass...

She's also the same one that was on to represent Clinton when Tweetyfuck ambushed that TX State Senator. Now, I really hate that smug smiling...

13. You fake Obama supporters are sick on this issue.
Is this the true color of your world, black or white? Is this true intend of your destination, life or death? Is this true make-up of your society, friend or enemy? Give me break. Did you see that this decent lady was obviously struggled with words on the feet? "Clothing of his country", not completely an error though. What touching word do we call our country? My fatherland, my motherland. Obama is an true American, no doubt about it, but his origine is half from that country or that area. Nothing wrong to call that country as his COUNTRY. When does this become a political taboo? How about Mr. Obama's best selling book, "My Father's Dream", are we allowed to mention it? His father was not an American by any means. He calls his father's dream, what dream is good about if HE WAS NOT AN AMERICAN?

Move on and find a true hope!

14. This is why you can't have it both ways
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 02:47 PM by Nasprin
When Jesse Jackson gets up there and speaks and says that a black man born in this country, native to America, is first and foremost native to Africa and is in culture an African-American, it is divisive language and rhetoric. I consider myself an American and only an American. I do not call myself or consider myself an Irish-American. Yet Barack has wanted people to call him both an American while respecting his wish to be a member of the African/Muslim-American culture. It does become an issue when people can't tell which set of values and principles you will take an oath to represent. I want a president taking an oath to uphold American values and cultural distinctions, not a president who will be keeping one set of principles and values in one closet of the oval office and a kufi in the other.
