First, yes, I support Barack Obama.

However, having worked the 11-7 shift in a diner to put myself through school (yes, going to class after work smelling like grease) for 3 years, this commercial pisses me off. Some rich lady married to someone powerful, sitting in a nice office with staff to bring her hot coffee compares herself to a nurse or waitress working 3rd shift?!

I can't imagine anyone who has ACTUALLY WORKED A FULL NIGHT SHIFT will think that someone staying up late to catch up on work is anything remotely close to the same thing.

Holy crap - she needs to fire someone. That was insulting.

3. Gosh, I guess I was just resting all those nights...
After leaving the house at 6:15 (in a dress with stockings and heels, of course)
and driving 19 miles to school for early faculty meetings and parent/teacher
conferences before a full day with no prep hour, followed by Speech team 'til
6:00 and play rehearsals until 10:00. Then the 19 mile drive home, where grading the papers began.

And to think they paid me (with a master's) $19000 in 1983, and they let me
be part of a really bad HMO, too!

I had it so good.

6. With all due respect
As a teacher who has also had jobs where I've had to work the third shift, I can tell you that there is absolutely *no* comparison. None at all. And I've never been as poorly paid, either, as when I worked those jobs. (Believe me, when people will work 3rd for a $.50 per hour 'shift differential', you know they are in dire circumstances.)

And, no, I'm not an in-at-7:30-out-at-2:30 teacher. I've advised groups, had to coach soccer games on the *same* night as open house, done three-hour long (in each direction) bus rides to coach games on school nights (and then waited for my last player to get picked up), etc etc etc ad naseum.

4. Why, yes. She actually spent a few hours at night reading the Iraq NIE.
Oh wait. Must have been something else she was reading that night.

10. I'M ON THE NIGHT SHIFT NOW
Heck, I spent ten years in the military and barely broke $30,000 per year. I put my life on the line, and basically lived in a prison/communist state for our freedoms. But this petty parsing of someones words gets your ire up.

This ridiculous petty hate speech from democrats is really discouraging me. It seems like everyone has forgotten who the real enemy is, and is willing to stoop to our true enemies tactics to win.

12. NO

The repukes, of which she is not.

And why isn't it enough to support your candidate because you like them instead of supporting them, because you hate someone else. And before you ask, I don't hate repukes, I just think they are wrong. The rhetoric and venom surrounding people who oppose Hillary, is quite distasteful. If people want their candidate supported if they win, they should turn down the acidic tone they use now.

Btw, I spoke no "venom" towards Clinton. I simply spoke the truth.

14. GOOD FOR YOU
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 02:49 AM by muyojoe
Then why are you responding to my post? I didn't say you, I said, "The rhetoric and venom surrounding people who oppose Hillary, is quite distasteful." The operative word there is "people."

From the beginning, "Some rich lady married to someone powerful, sitting in a nice office with staff to bring her hot coffee compares herself to a nurse or waitress working 3rd shift?!" "Yet another Clinton Lie" "She Was Up All Night Fielding Monica's Calls"

I call that venom, and you yourself used the term elite or elitist, which doesn't sound friendly, whatever you would like to call it.

We can argue stupid little tit for tat points or you can argue whether there is allot of venom (I see plenty on this site) against the woman. I didn't say everybody, but more than I can account for. I also don't see the other candidate from this party getting the same treatment. I don't know why people feel this way about her, and it doesn't make much sense to me to be that way about a nominee candidate from my own party.

15. Two words: Iraq War
Just in cause you were not aware, the majority of Americans want out of Iraq.

16. I KNOW I'VE BEEN UP ALL NIGHT
But this has what to do with venom and campaign commercials?

Oh, and by the way, I spent 10 years in service, and I don't even know why we went there. Therefore your answer to my post with the obvious statement that most people want out of Iraq is puzzling to me.
