Try To Explain This

Here's Bill Clinton this afternoon discounting Barack Obama's expected victory in South Carolina by explaining that Jesse Jackson won the state twice ...

So it is legitamate to talke about it especailly in America not from a racist point of view but rather from a matter of fact point of view. There are people in AMerica who will vote agaisnt Obama because he is black plain and simple.

Injecting it into the race. This gives the green light to Republicans in the general election. Independants will see into any hypocritical cry for a cease of the race-baiting. The Repuglican machine will have video clip after video clip to provide evidence.

I fully realize that Obama has to find a way of talking about race. He needs to be prepared to respond to the infamous "Southern Strategy". That said, when people as promanent (sp.) in the Democratic party as the Clintons inauthentically force discussion in veiled and calculated ways, they do a disservice to all progressives, Democrats and the nation as a whole.

"There are people in AMerica who will vote agaisnt Obama because he is black plain and simple."

There are also Neanderthals who won't vote for HRC because she's a woman and a Clinton to boot. But I never heard Obama or Edwards inject her gender into the race. To keep trying to diminish Obama's rout in SC just makes WJC look small and petty. The insinuation that Obama, like Jackson, only won because of "black" people is ludicrous.

and I fear for the long term survival of the party if he's allowed to go on unchecked. He'll probably tone it down now that he's lost SC, but if (as I suspect) HRC is the nominee, she's going to need heavy turnout in black precincts all across the country, because she won't win a single solitary southern state.

but it only stands to reason that Democrats win when there is heavy black voter turnout, which means that Hillary will have to pull off a huge win, outside the South, if blacks across the country don't turn out for her. John Kerry broke all records for black voter participation, and still didn't wind up in the Oval Office, can you imagine what would happen if blacks just stayed home?

28. I don't deny it. That's why Bill has been playing the race card,
and very effectively mind you, and that's why HRC's campaign has no intentions of reining him in. Bill Clinton is a Rhodes Scholar, and possibly the most intelligent man to occupy the Oval Office since JFK. That being said, you can be damn sure that every syllable is carefully thought out, and comparing Obama's win today to that of Jesse Jackson was a clarion call for white folks to get on board to stop the scary black man.

Let's be honest, white folks are scared of Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton. Clinton is very clever.

just stating the facts (as I see them). But being of AA descent, I have a special sensitivity to race baiting, no matter who it comes from, but it is especially disappointing when it comes from so-called "progressives". And you guys (I'm assuming you're an HRC supporter) aren't safe from rightwing attacks either. No Democrat is. Tough road for whomever snags the nomination.

Looking at it from your point of view,I would say the reporter wanted to know why it takes two white people to defeat one black man. Oh and in case you did'nt notice OBAMA is BLACK You people are pathetic he gets asked a question and no matter what he says you idiots twist it into something racial. I'll tell you what instead of worrying about blacks voting for Hillary, you might want to start worrying about whites voting for Obama. So in other words another Republican president.

Ironic how close that is to Hillbilly. I for one do not wish a Pyrrhic victory for the Democrats this election cycle.

Hillary has enough positives to have to resort to race-baiting crap like this. Somehow Bill has gotten it into his head the African American community will forgive him for this crap. It ain't going to happen.

I can't speak for any Black man or woman. That said, I would venture to say that the Black community has been recognizing and dealing with racism for every single year, every single minute of this country's existence. You really think that they will see a difference between McCain or Hillary (if she continues along these lines). Why would they be excited to vote for either?

Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 10:13 PM by Infinite Hope
in the future, scrutinize more harshly, and more seriously consider voting for either party based on the individual candidate. I think it's creating greater cynicism and declining trust in the democratic party as a unit. If Bill and Hillary Clinton, of all people, can pull such a cynical strategy, one has no choice but to become cynical themselves.

If it wasn't for Perot in 92 and 96 you would not have won. Al Gore and John Kerry got a greater percentage of the electorate than you did. Sit down and shut up. You are just pissed because Gore and Kerry ran away from your "legacy" as a DLC President. You are getting back at Obama and the party for not bowing to your greatness. This election is apparently not about Hillary, its about YOU.

33. Maybe Jesse will win it again someday
What the president is trying to say is that South Carolina is irrelevant to the election of a Democratic president. Neither Hillary nor Obama can carry a single state of the 'old south' in the general election. Edwards could maybe carry one or two but the media has decided that he won't get the chance. This situation will prevail no matter how many black voters turn out. From Jacksonville to Nashville the code word for 'black person' is 'democrat'. Remember, even in the south, they are still a minority. If they are rumored to turn out in droves the whites will turn out in droves too. That, along with strategically placed roadblocks on election day will ensure that republicans prevail.

That is my perspective, and I am an older white guy. My respect for Bill Clinton is dropping fast. He is approaching scumball status.

In the next election, I am voting for an honest person. I am tired of liars in and around the Whitehouse, Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeldt, Rice - the whole gang, and yes, Bill Clinton. Hillary has also been employing devious mischaracterizations and dirt-level innuendos. The scramble for power can be an ugly thing, especially if power is the primary objective. Hillary and Bill's motivation seems different from both Obama and Edwards. Dream ticket: Obama + Edwards.

36. A Democrat with Balls
Sorry, but for all of his faults he was and still is a force to be reckoned with. He wants his wife to win and he knows the system. He's been shat upon by a ridiculous circus event that no other civilized nation would have entertained and a media all to happy to add to the turd pile.

If Hillary wins I expect the GOP will begin Impeachment proceedings immediately-- and what's worse, they'll likely succeed. Unlike we Democrats, Republicans play to win. She'll need all the help she can get.

And ya know, not for nuttin' but, it is not entirely without some merit that a black man winning in a nation that idolized a functionally illiterate moron from a famously racist party might just get in the way of a Dem victory. Not to mention the fact that little as been done to weed out right wing pollution of the vote process.

Carry on!

40. The SC vote was in my opinion...
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 03:21 PM by dicknbush
Jury nullification. The black community got upset with the way things were being discussed and they decided to go with voting based on color in my opinion. The fact of the matter is SC won't go to the Dems in the general election anyway...so it might be interpreted as a silly thing for Bill to say but the fact is he is correct. Of course this could all change on Feb 5 if Obama pulls off a major win in a majority of the states but we shall see. So Obama controlled the black vote in SC but you will need a lot more then a protest vote to win the presidency.

By the way Hillary has 230 Delegates Obama has 152.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/scorecard/

OH I so wish HUCKABUCK would get the Rep nod and then use this for their add campaign. By the way did hear the story about the high school shoot out in Arkansas when Huck was Gov and then he wrote a book and was paid $25,000 for it and didn't donate any of it to the victims of the shoot out and he had said that any one who made money off the incident was getting blood money..he really is a scum bag.
