2. Huckabee is a good sport, and pretty funny.
And then it gets scary.

3. I think the fact that he's "funny" is debatable...
Cruel, yes. Funny? Only if you like race jokes.

5. Huckabee seems like a great guy
If only his positions and beliefs were the complete opposite of those he actually has.

8. He does
I also agree with veniceboy that Huckabee would beat Hillary Clinton. I think he's our toughest opponent.

9. What planet are you living on?
Huckabee? He's a joke. The only people who take him seriously are evangelical Christians and as far as I've checked, they're still a small minority in this country.

11. People thought Clinton was a joke, too
The only people who take him seriously are evangelical Christians and as far as I've checked, they're still a small minority in this country.

That would depend on your definition of "evangelical." If you mean "Christian Nationalist," then you're right, they are a small minority. If you mean Christians with some kind of outreach program, then there's a ton of them. Realistically, we are probably talking about Christians who self-identify as "evangelical" which may be 40%-50% of the electorate (rough guess).

Huckabee has populist charm. He's no Bill Clinton, but if he has enough support among Republicans to win the nomination, then it will prove that his charm has legs. In that case, we need to be concerned. Hopefully, Huckabee's gaffes (past and present) will be his undoing.

My opinion is that the Democrats are the best shape, competitively, if we have the "fresh and new" candidate and the Rethugs have the "status quo" candidate.

14. Your number is probably more accurate than the one I pulled out of my ass...
So, I hope — in the event of a Huckabee nomination — that you are right.

Personally, I think Huckabee may broaden his appeal. There are so many variables, and so many "plusses" and "minuses" — not to mention Huckabee's amazing capacity for gaffes — that we can only wait and see how this plays out.

15. I think his mouth will do him in.
But we have to use those "gaffes". Republican gaffes don't usually get as much press as Democratic ones, so we can't let anything just pass by.

6. Are the Daily Show and Colbert Report back on?
What happened to the writers strike? Are they scabbing?

I missed both shows, but had no idea they were on because of the writers strike.

7. I think they are on without writers.
Edited on Thu Jan-10-08 11:37 AM by Akoto
I didn't get to see the first shows when they returned, but it was mentioned here that they alluded to having been forced back on the air.

I'd also read that TDS tried to settle with the WGA, like Letterman did, but the WGA refused. Trying to keep the stress on and all.

10. I think their first day back was just a few days ago.
I just set my DVR back up to record them. They are without writers, but it sounded like Colbert had written some of his stuff before hand. He might get a call from the WGA like Jay Leno did.
