This is from a couple years back, but as the War on Christmas ramps up I thought some people would get a kick out of this. Sam Seder rocks.

5. Good to hear that old lie about the school in Wisconsin again
The old classics always bring a tear to my eyes.
Good thing ol' Bob has the job he has. He don't seem to s-m-a-r-t.

6. oh, so there was no "Oh, Cold Night"?
Are you sure? Bummer.

Because I've always wondered about the lyrics. I mean, okay, so they couldn't say the night was "silent", but I've always wondered what were the substitutions for:

Holy night?
The round yon virgin?
The holy infant?
Heaven afar?
Heavenly hosts singing Alleluia?
Christ the saviour?
The Son of God?
Thy holy face?
The Jesus lord?

9. Yes there was but as usual that was only part of the story
IIRC the school was doing some kind of a holiday play or concert. Songs were reinterpreted to fit a theme they had. Thus Silent Night became 'O, Cold Night'. There were other songs that were bent a bit to fit the theme. It had nothing to do with changing the words so the children would learn to hate Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
Maybe 'Silent Night' is so sacred that it can't be messed with. I do know that growing up Catholic, our version of SN was different from the Protestant version. Were we to sing the Protestant version we would go to hell. Or at least that's what we were told.
Sort of like all those ways that the 12 days of Xmas is twisted.
For my own part, I would be very happy never hearing SN or 12 days as long as I live.

11. Quite frankly
Silent Night is way too religious a song for public schools in the first place. I went to a public school where about 20% of the kids were Jewish. Why should they have been forced to sing such an obviously Christian song? There are plenty of Santa and Rudolph and freakin' Chipmunk songs out there that can be used. God knows there are plenty of them. The woman in the next office has been blaring them for the past three weeks and it's very lucky for her that I don't own a gun. :)

12. That is probably why the words were changed.
I feel the same way about religion as I do about smoking - do it if you want but don't stink up my world with it.

I'd say he's got some issues.

13. Ha, ha!
That assumes they *need* an intermediate step. Sadly, they don't.
