6. Penn doesn't have a clue. He has blinders on.
I, and many others apparently, don't see D.K. in the way that Penn sees him. The only, singular voice of integrity? No, I don't see him that way. Honestly.

I see him as courageous in stating his ideas, yes. But I also see him as arrogant and ego driven. One example is recently on a televised informal phone in debate, ea. Dem. candidate was asked to ask another candidate a question. They all did. Except for D.K., who asked himself a question.

Penn says, in his tunnel vision I guess, that if everyone who supports D.K. would vote for him, then he'd be "electable." Not true. As the polling numbers indicate, few people in the country support him. That's why he is not in the first tier. It's not the media being against him. It's not Clinton's supposed inevitability. It's that he doesn't appeal to the majority of Democrats.

I'm sure Tancredo and Duncan Hunter supporters feel about their candidate the way Penn feels about his. But these candidates just don't have the organization and ideas that speak to the majority of their party members.

As for Penn's remarks about D.K. being too short, that is a sad truth about human nature. Usually, throughout our country's history, throughout the history of other countries, throughout the history of mankind, humans tend to pick their leaders based on a number of factors, including physical attributes. It doesn't mean we can't choose a short leader, but there has to be something else strong and powerful about the male candidate for leader that makes up for it. A deep, powerful voice, a history of proven bravery (McCain), an earthiness...something. Some reason to make you want to run to him when bad guys are breaking in your house. I wouldn't run to Kucinich.

Last, there's the wife. Like Thompson, he married a woman young enough to be his daughter. She has a stud on her tongue, and sits in the audience with a frozen smile on her face. I know the men think this is great. But few women over a certain age would vote for him for that reason alone. A choice of spouse tells a lot about a person. Again, the ego thing.

Penn does a lot of good things with his life. He was remarkable during Katrina. But when he supported Chavez, he lost any credibility in my book. I would tend not to vote for anyone he supported, whoever that would be.

7. On the questioning of himself at the debate...
How many other quetions was he asked? One, two? Dennis was smart to ask himself so that he got time to cover his positions.

Viva Bolivarian Revolucion!

8. arrogant? really,. Dennis Kucinich ? lol ;)
Wow! I guess some people really do go in for the cult of personality eh. Not one single mention of a policy or platform issue!! You don't want to vote for the man because you don't agree with his choice of wife,. guess you are just sexist and ageist,. perhaps you should forget about politics and go back to watching American Idle..,

"Some reason to make you want to run to him when bad guys are breaking in your house."

I guess IF we where electing a FATHER FIGURE you could have some sort of personal preference point,. however this is an opportunity to change the direction of America,. to work to move away from global war-mongering for the profits of a tinny few pirate bankers,. and create a bright green future of sustainability,. and peace by reaching out to the rest of the world with peace and hope and working together to solve our common problems,. DK IS the ONLY candidate running that has a real platform of transformative change that America so desperatly needs,. and you take the time to post about his wife being too yong for him? Because that is a deal between the two of them, and has absolutly nothing to do with you,. If it bothers you I would suggest the problem is your own.

., and what do you have against Chavez? You buying the propaganda from the Cheney Junta and the pirate banker controlled media?

13. You need to take a course in anthropology or history.
We elect male leaders as father figures of a sort. America is, in fact, a patriarch society. If you do not know these things, you need to take another course or two. Or wait and be surprised when a little bitty guy with a high pitched voice and out-of-the-mainstream ideas doesn't get the nomination.

As for positions and policies, if you re-read my initial post, I referred to the fact that D.K.'s ideas do not speak to the majority of the Democrats in the country. Hence, the low poll numbers - also known as supporters.

Sorry to rain on your parade. He will not win the nomination, no way, no how.

If his supporters are supporters of Chavez, that would explain D.K.'s low number of supporters in our country. BTW...I don't need anyone to explain Chavez to me. I've seen enough on my own. Move to Venezuela and see how you like it. First, try to find a job that pays something. Next, try to find some milk or cheese, when your baby is crying. Next, try to find some milk or cheese that you can afford. If you are lucky enough to find all of these things, then sit in your shack and ponder whether Chavez had to walk miles that day looking for milk for his children.

23. good grief
Chavez is an authoritarian, yeah. But Venezuela's longstanding economic problems aren't his fault. Those problems were even worse under the US-supported right-wing authoritarians who previously ruled that country. Chavez doesn't have to be a saint to be not as bad as his detractors make him out to be, or a demon to be worse than his cheerleaders say. The Venezuelans have just now demonstrated very nicely that they are completely capable of telling Chavez "no," and he is capable of knowing when he is overreaching. Weird, ain't it? Can we now just pay attention to dealing with the authoritarians in our own government?

Oh, and I'm a middle aged woman who supports DK. I don't care if his wife has a tongue-stud. And I don't hold it against her that she is attractive or much younger than him. She obviously didn't marry DK for either his looks or his power. And it isn't like he has abandoned an older wife in pursuit of a younger one. And I certainly don't want the president to think for even a second that he or she is a father figure to me. What, am I to expect phone calls asking if I've heard from my sisters lately and do I know anything about who some grandchild is dating? Really, now, that whole president-as-parent thing is silly. The president is not my father, not my boss, not my commander (I'm a civilian), not anything other than an elected public servant.

11. Sorry, indie, kinda weak.
I'm not saying whether I'm voting for Kooch or not, but the arguments you just poured on the table are..shall we say, unconvincing?

You wouldn't vote for anybody Penn supports because he supported Chavez?? weak
I see, so the jury's in for you and Chavez is guilty....sorry, the jury's still out for me.

Kooch is arrogant because he pre-empted the bullshit methods of the people running the debate? The same people who don't get around to him very often? And then the questions are HORSESHIT? And where's Mike Gravel?? double weak

History of proven bravery (McCain)? Well yeah, before he ran against Bu$h and let them pee all over him and the he HUGGED and supported Bu$h? And now he's trying to reclaim it by war mongering. At least he's against torture, the last good thing he's got.

But he damn sure isn't looking better than Kooch. And Sean Penn could give him a run for his money too.

15. I'm not arguing or trying to convince anyone of anything. I was stating cold, hard facts.
D.K. has very few supporters. It is almost impossible - although not completely impossible, should a few bizarre things happen to cause it - for him to win the nomination.

America has heard his message loudly and clearly. America has rejected either his message or him. Either way, he is toast.

My words are a bit strong, maybe. But those are the facts. He is not winning, never was winning, and will not be winning the nomination. Neither will Tancredo. Neither will Duncan Hunter. Neither will Chris Dodd. This doesn't make them "losers," so to speak, or unworthy or their current posts. It doesn't mean it wasn't worth a shot. But several of the second tier candidates aren't even at the top of the second tier. They have no chance. And Sean Penn's endorsement won't help at all. It might please the current supporters, but they're already supporters.

In order to win, D.K. would need to bring in, say, older career women - this is who is putting Obama and Clinton at the top. Or older married women. So far, D.K. has virtually no support among those two groups. Next, he could appeal to older men. D.K. doesn't appeal to older men, generally - although Penn is an older man, I admit. I'm sure you can see the problem. The groups I just named form the bulk of the voters in America.

As for his spouse...yes, who a person chooses to spend his/her life with, and become "one" with, is very telling of that person's judgment and character. As Bill Maher put it, "No matter who wins the Presidency, Mrs. Kucinich still gets to be First Lady." As a middle aged woman, I won't be voting for any man who has a trophy wife for his First Lady, esp. one with a stud on her tongue who stands there like a frozen fish with a smile glued on her face. She is no Michelle Obama, Elizabeth Edwards, or even Mrs. Romney, for that matter.

17. America has rejected his message?
How come, in recent polls, 61% have said they want out of Iraq?

How come a majority of Americans, and even physician groups, have come out in favor of a single payer health care system?

I'm an older career woman. I support Dennis Kucinich. I'm an older married woman. I support Dennis Kucinich, as does my husband, who is an older man. So from my household, Kooch has 100% from those groups you say don't support him.

Just because the MSM isn't singing his tune, or DLC stooges like you don't like him does not mean the Country has rejected his message. his message has been squashed and buried by the mechanisms that don't want to see him or anyone else that might challenge the rich first status quo getting to be POTUS.

now, where exactly did you get your demographics data from? I wouldn't mind seeing it for myself rather than take the word of you, who opposes Dennis on everything from "not being daddy enough" to "having a trophy wife with a tongue stud" Never mind her work for the Poor in Tanzania, or the plethora of other AID and Charity work she did.. she has a tongue stud and she's too young for Dennis who obviously just wants her as a arm piece. nonsense, pure nonsense.

25. Then you have bought into the media turning the bid for the presidency into American Idol.
Edited on Sun Dec-09-07 04:19 PM by DutchLiberal
So the fact that one's wife has a stud in her tongue is something you base your support on??? How superficial can you get? What has her having a stud possibly got to do with her husband's stances on the war, health care, torture, patriot act, civil liberties etc.? Why would you approach the American presidency like it's a freakin' Miss World-competition? You would rather have a president who voted for war in Iraq and the Patriot Act, just because his/her spouse looks better? Is that more important than, say, health care for all? You would elect the 'leader of the free world', the man/woman who can shape the future of millions of lives around the globe based on a stud? If so: please do not vote. Let somebody vote who cares about issues.

By the way, does this sound like a 'trophy wife' to you? (From Wikipedia: )

Elizabeth originates from North Ockendon in London, England. In 1996 she went to Agra, India, to volunteer at one of Mother Teresa's homes for India's poorest children.<1> Upon earning her bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Kent, she spent 16 months in a rural Tanzanian village and worked as an advocate for regional development.<1>

After leaving Tanzania, she volunteered with a British Red Cross refugee unit; earned a certificate in Peace Studies from Coventry University; and got a job as a fund-raiser for a seafarer's charity in London.<1> Her volunteer work often brought her to the House of Lords.<1> At that time she heard financial analyst Stephen Zarlenga speak about monetary reform. She was impressed and soon was hired to become Zarlenga's assistant at the Chicago-based American Monetary Institute.<1>

For high school, she attended Coopers' Company and Coborn School located in Upminster, London, from 1989 to 1996.

She attended the University of Kent at Canterbury in the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2001 and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies and Theology and a Master's degree in International Conflict Analysis. Her thesis for her Master's was on "Conflict Resolution in World Politics".

26. Kucinich wins all the polls that I trust...
I am like Penn before he made a commitment to Kucinich. Torn between Edwards and Kucinich, because of General election probability. BUT if I go to my caucus in Maine —where in 2004 I had to talk a few people over to Kucinich's side so he could send delegates— and there is as much support for him as I am finally seeing on line, I will join the momentum. If Edwards is ahead I will go that way... I think. My concern is that we don't split the vote and end up with worse than both.

I have a personal story that was told to me that has altered my total adoration for Kucinich. It creeped me out at the time, but now I am glad because it is not good to blindly believe any politician. On issues he is right. As for Chavez, after reading Overthrow by Kinzer, and Economic Hit Man by Perkins and Shock Doctrine by Klein, I KNOW that I know nothing if it came from "Government Sourced" media.

I admire Sean Penn a great deal and in the process leading up to my caucus, he has made me think.

PS
Media polls are based on 1200 random phone calls? Is that about right?

The polls where Kucinich does so well are based on way more people than that, and they are people that care enough to show up at the primaries.

He is doing WAY better than in 2004 when most of my fellow towns people hadn't heard of him.

In defense of what you said about his wife, I am a middle aged woman and I consider myself fairly open minded with lots of young people in my life and i have to agree with you to a certain extent. I woke up from a nightmare and shook my husband awake to say "Never, they will never elect a woman with a toungue ring. Not yet, they just wont"

I was very shaken because once again I had thought I was ready to commit...

Still not sure.

9. Pick pick pick..
Some just like the look of the package. It's what's in the box is what's important.
Please, his wife, his height? Think about it. What is he SAYING?

Other candidates want to continue in Iraq, just "reform" certain disastrous bills, continue holding on to the nukes, "reform" what we have for health care etc. Kucinich is the only one with the courage to say this has to come to a complete stop here. Things have gotten way off the mark. Enough already.

In the primary, what does one have to lose by voting for Kucinich. What's really powerful and amazing is the thought of - what if he won??
