Hillary Campaign Demands Obama Take Down Ad, Accuses Him Of False Advertising
By Eric Kleefeld - November 30, 2007, 11:57AM

Hillary Clinton has been hitting Barack Obama's health plan for a while — and now she's hitting his ad about the subject. The Clinton campaign has now sent the Obama camp a letter, demanding that he take down one of his ads, on the grounds that his claim to "cover everyone" is fraudulent.

"Until the time comes when Sen. Obama has a plan that will cover everyone, you should stop running this false advertisement," wrote Hillary adviser Patti Solis Doyle. "The American people deserve an honest debate about health care."

"The Clinton campaign didn't say a word when this ad was released a month ago, and the only thing that's changed since then is the poll numbers," Obama spokesman Bill Burton wrote to Ben Smith. "The truth is, Barack Obama's universal plan will provide coverage to every single American who can't afford it and do more to cut the cost of health care than any other plan in this race. Rather than spending their time attacking Barack Obama, the Clinton campaign should explain how exactly they plan to force every American to buy health insurance even if they can't afford it."

1. This ad has been running in Iowa for a long time. It only became a false ad now?
What a joke.

3. so you're saying it's NOT a false ad?
or it is a false ad, but because Clinton campaign just now brought it to light, that matters more?

4. You think the Clinton campaign just checked out this ad by Obama that has been running for a long
time? I doubt it.

2. Any idea when the ground freezes in Iowa?
This mudslinging by Senator Clinton is getting old, fast.

8. She has started demands that opposing candidate remove their ads.
My prediction: it'll only be a matter of time before they "correct" this petty, whiny position for the record...

20. Hillary is oversensitive, likes to play the victim.
That is not very professional of her. If she thinks this ad is bad, what will she do when Karl Rove starts attacking her. Hillary had better get out of that kitchen, because even though she protests and protests that she can stand the heat, she clearly can't.

7. It is below freezing right now - 22 degrees according to my Weather Channel desktop.
We are supposed to have freezing rain, sleet and some snow this weekend - a Winter Storm Watch is in effect. Winter has arrived in Iowa.

It think this mud will slide off, not stick.

15. Let Hillary meander in the mud....
Iowans were disgusted with her planted-question scheme at Grinnell College,
and her subsequent lies about it. Another Iowa citizen came forward to
reveal that the same thing happened to her--a Clinton lackey asked her to
ask a planted question and instructed her that she would be called upon.

Both of these Iowans have come forward to out Hillary's fake sideshow.

Hillary came into this state and insulted our citizens--by using them to
ask fake questions.

Her behavior underscores what many suspected about her--that she's not
authentic, she's an overly managed politician who can't speak honestly
and openly to the American people.

She's lost credibility here. Her polls in Iowa are sliding.

If Mrs. Clinton wants to remedy the damage she's done--by ripping into Obama's
ads--give me a lawn chair, so I can continue to watch her polls slide.

She's got a lot of nerve calling another candidate on the carpet for dishonesty--
after the stunts she's pulled!

...and I'm not even an Obama supporter!

5. Has Hillary seen "Sicko?"
Miss Walmart America needs to understand that the
American people no longer buy the lie that Universal Health Care
is not a possibility for the people of this country.

If the corporacrats in Washington think they can continue to
act in the interest of the wealthiest while the American people
wake up to the fact that other countries take care of their
citizens FIRST- they are in for a very rude wake up call.

Fuck Hillary and the rest of the corporate whores
who have raped the people of this country.

10. All the plans "cover" everybody if they ...
(1) can not turn people down based on pre-existing conditions, and
(2) are made affordable to everyone, based on income

All the candidates' plans do this. Whether or not this coverage is mandatory or not has nothing to do with "covering" people.

I would deem this ad truthful ... whether you require everybody to buy insurance or make it possible for everybody to buy insurance is beside the point. The question is: does it cover everyone? Yes.

I am particularly sensitive to the turning-down part of commercial insurance. It happened to my daughter when she lost her Cobra after being laid off from a job. Long story: she got on the Cobra, paid the first month's premium ... well, we had to help: it was over $500 and she was, um, unemployed; when she didn't get a bill for the second month, she called us to ask what she should do; by the time she called, she found out she'd been "cancelled" for being late. She bought some shitty insurance which ended up covering ... almost NOTHING. So we had her apply for other insurance. She was turned down because of a pre-existing condition. She wanted insurance; we were willing to help her pay for it. She could either get fly-by-night insurance that wasn't worth the money, or "real" insurance that, apparently, she didn't qualify for. She went without insurance for quite some time until she got a job again that offered it.

14. She demanded that he retract that ad?
What a bitch.

It's a standard political ad. Her demand to retract it is petty bullshit.

19. lovely. Nice misogyny there
I think if someone is lying in an ad they have a duty to retract it. And I am CERTAIN that if Clinton said ANYTHING that was not exactly the truth--you and your friends would be demanding that she be lashed.

First, there's no "lie" in that ad no matter how hard you and your Hillary cabal hope.

Second, no other campaign or supporters of other candidates (that i've seen) have demanded any ads be taken down. You are all alone there.

22. Really? I remember obama DEMANDING an apology and a retraction from Clinton
for a story that was printed by a republican.

If an ad is a LIE then it should be pulled. It is a lie for him to suggest what he does in the ad--and improper to lie in an ad.

And secondly: my my my, aren't you hostile: "bullshit" "cabal" Hard to carry on a discussion with: denial, hostility, ugly language, double standards for the candidates. Hmmm, you were so angry at my post yesterday, and here you are again proving by example.
