IMHO, This movie may be THE political film of the year. The synopsis: The time is 2008 - three years after a nuclear attack on El Paso and Abilene, TX. The draft has been re-instated. America is at war with Iraq, Iran, Korea and more. The government has taken control of the Internet and the Patriot act has been turned into an agency called US-IDENT. There is a fuel shortage but an alternative has been discovered by a German scientist who generates power from ocean currents. This is the summer before the 2008 elections and all this craziness is leading up to a July 4 weekend, commemorating the third anniversary of the nuclear blast.

1. Village Voice LOVED this movie, naturally...
...since it bashes Los Angeles to the nth degree.

Every other review I've read is basically a 2 paragraph expansion of the word "Huh?"

It ain't political--it's just friggin' weird.

3. I wanna see it too, actually.
Despite "The Rock" as its star, Sarah Michelle Gellar as a porn star, Stifler from "American Pie" as two identical twins...the guy who directed this made "Donnie Darko," so he must (hopefully) know what he's doing.

I just hated the Village Voice snottiness about Los Angles being a cultural wasteland. As a Los Angelino currently living in Brooklyn--Go to hell, Voice!

4. I understand
Being from Texas, my state gets a lot of slamming on this board.

I am sad because it's opening in limited release - which means it probably won't go into wide release unless lots of peeps go see it this weekend. So help a poor West Texas gal out and go watch it for me. If not, I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD. That will make me cry. You don't want to make me cry, do you?

;)
