1. Edwards is right on but the one thing I wanted to hear him say
is that we need to end the damned war in Iraq - Enough! that war is a travesty against humanity.

2. Well, you're in luck.
Because he HAS said that. Multiple times and very vocally. Just not in this particular video. He can't say it in every video the campaign puts out, because some of them need to be on other topics.

4. IDK, something about the sincerest form of flattery?

I can just see Thursday's debate:

Joe is right, I agree with Joe, what Joe said, thank you Joe.

5. Shocking!
The candidates share some of the same beliefs on some issues?! Incredible!

This is unprecedented really. Next thing you know, candidates will start using similar words and phrases in speeches and debates, like "neocon", "carrots and sticks", etc.

We might even see republican candidates expressing similar positions on certain issues. They might even give speeches against abortion that sound similar (a few days part even, *if* they have guts) and talk about "the sanctity of life" for example.

6.  This is almost word for word, a little different than having the same ideas.

7. Let's say it is
Let's say it is in fact very similar (I don't care enough either way to check) for sake of argument.

Either Edwards really did 'steal' the speech and hoped no one would notice or it's a big coincidence.

The bottom line for me is that if it's the former, while not ideal, it's not a deal breaker. Now, if it became a regular and consistent pattern of speech stealing, then yes, it would be a valid concern at that point because it would show Edwards had no good ideas of his own.

But until then, I'll be happy with the fact that a candidate recognizes good ideas and adopts them rather than dismissing them simply because he wasn't the first to come up with them (assuming that's even the case...how do we know when these speeches were written for example?).

8. If you don't care enough to check the references, do you care enough to watch
the debates? To read their statements? To be aware of their positions? (not as snarky as it sounds). Just curious as to what your interest level is.

And welcome to DU, by the way! :hi:

9. Of course!
Yes, yes and yes. And no offense taken, thanks for the welcome!

I'm quite interested, although my level of interest increases or decreases depending on the issue, which probably applies to most people.

For example, while the topic of this thread is important generally speaking, it's relatively low on my *personal* list of priorities (wages, health care, trade, etc.).

10. Wow - I'm not dismissing Edwards's sincerity, but he's presenting facts that
even I'm aware of from reading the papers. Important, shameful facts to be sure, but nothing that tells me he has a greater understanding than I do of the problems.

Then there's Biden. I'd have liked to see Edwards leave the stage then have Biden come on for his presentation.

Anyway, this isn't about Biden so I won't go on, but I really recommend people watch both of these videos and give some thought to which one of them CARES the most, and which one would probably fight the most passionately for our service men and women.

Like night and day.
