2. He's happy with people stuffed in the closet?
Dr. Berman kicked his butt. My daughter is a student at a large high school. She has strait and gay friends. I can't even relate to what his problem is as his thought process is so not on par with mine. It's just backwards and illogical.

Good for those young women. I'm glad we live in a time when people can be out and be happy.

If you don't think like Billo, you're wrong.

It is as simple as that.

The country would be a lot better off if we all just agreed with his O'Loofahness.

What a dick.

13. I think they're still trying to hang onto the whole "gay" thing as a wedge issue, to
fire up their "base" of Christian evangelicals, who agree with him, and to keep it going as a motivator to get them out to the polls. I think that's the reason they won't let it go.

I call it terse and barely-restrained. She was doing everything in her power to not shout him down. The smile turned into a plaster rictus.

That woman was PISSED. That she had the restraint to sit there and deal with it is commendable - I would have been unable to keep from ending the "interview" then and there.

22. Bill-O, like many, can't tell the difference between what is "normal" and "natural"
To be the Norm or normal is a mathematical concept (I doubt Bill wants to get into that) and has only to do with the probability of any given thing. It is not the norm to be red haired, but for many people it is very natural. It is normal and natural to be a dark haired heterosexual. That does not make any judgment about it. What does "normal" or even "natural" have to do with judging a thing "good" or "bad."

I am so tired of trying to get this simple thought into the minds of the closed minded. Just because a thing is natural, (say a herpes virus) does not make it "good" or even "bad." It is normal to lose your eyesight as you get older. That does not make it necessarily good.

Bill, drop the "it's not normal" or "it goes against nature" argument. It's a false argument. It is only used to hide the real reason you do not want homosexuals to have the freedom to live as they will. You fear. You fear everything. Your fear is so thick I can smell it through electronic media, miles of geography and even through time and space.

How will you and all your little minions live? What if all the simple rules you thought had been written down(in perfect English or at least perfectly translated English) are actually more complicated than you first thought? What if they take interpretation, thought, meditation, self awareness, self examination, and an honest assessment of your own character?

No wonder you're frightened.

O'Reilly doesn't have a clue. Thank goodness kids are getting it! It is great that there are High Schools where being Gay is no big deal. As a teacher for 33 years, I have seen too much pain in children because they aren't Bill O'Reilly's idea of "the norm."

Not O'Really, but the couple.
How cool is it that they have each other and are accepted by their classmates.
Wish high-school was like that when I was a teen.

As far as what's "normal" in Billo's book? I seem to remember some taped phone calls between him and an unwilling subordinate, where he was sodomizing himself with a vibrator and fantasizing about massaging her with falafel.

Yeah, that's "normal."

(pardon my rude language, but...) how fucking stupid O'Reilly is. I used to be very homophobic, but that was in highschool before I even knew anyone gay. Now that I'm older and wiser I see that gay rights is the civil rights movement of my era.

I just don't understand how 'Culture Warrior" billo doesn't get it. People don't choose to be gay, and the sooner people realize that, the sooner we won't be trying to legislate against gays.

30. I think they're just trying to keep it alive as a "hot button issue" to get their base to the polls
They are using it as a polarizing issue, even though it turns many voters away from them, it draws their "base" of evangelical Christians out to vote - if there is a gay marriage ban on the ballot, that will get them out to the polls, and while they're there, they'll probably vote for the Republicans on the ballot. That's the only reason, I think, why the won't let go of it.

He's saying "Why should these kids put themselves at risk for criticism by a homophobic, intolerant culture led by bigoted media demogauges like me?

After all, If they didn't act so outwardly gay, they wouldn't have to face people such as myself bullying them so much..."

Makes perfect sense :sarcasm:

33. I say hear, hear!
I agree absolutely with what Bill said at the very end about legalizing drugs because criminalization has not been effective. I know he was being sarcastic, but he hit on an important aspect of the whole argument. He has this idea stuck in his head that certain things are just wrong, even though they don't hurt anybody, and that the government should use its money and resources to prevent those things from happening.

37. The stink of hypocrisy is thick whenever Bill'O is around
Edited on Mon Nov-12-07 12:50 AM by Limelight
I can't believe anyone and everyone that comes in contact with this idiot doesn't pass the hell out from the scent of pure, unadulterated BS everytime they around him. What a hypocritical moron!

Private conduct should be done in private. Really Bill? If this couple had been heterosexual you wouldn't even be talking about this. HomoSEXUAL... HeteroSEXUAL... Identifying anyone as a couple is an automatic acknowledgment of the SEXUAL nature of their relationship dumbass! Therefore if it's inappropriate display of sexuality in that high school whether the couple be hetero or homo sexual. It actually sounded like that's what the High School tried to do, getting rid of the cutest couple moniker all together. I imagine that they got backed down by the utter and couple transparency of the reason they wanted to do so.

And parents don't wanted because it's harder to be a homosexual in this society. Well damn, it's harder to be black in this society, a fact I can tell you from experience. Gee, I guess I'll just stop being black. What a novel idea. </:sarcasm:>

I love it that he thinks it's reasonable that the way to combat that difficulty in being homosexual in American society is for every homosexual to just shut up and stay in the closet. Awesome, a national don't ask don't tell policy. Or maybe instead we'll just identify all the gays, have them where some kind of emblem like a pink triangle or something on there clothes so the rest of us straights know to stay away from the gay cooties. Heck, I think somebody's already tried something like that. Wonder how it worked out?

He points out that gay teens are at a higher risk to abuse drugs and alcohol. Hmmmmm... Wonder if that has anything to do with parents and society as a whole teaching them from the time their young that they should loathe and hate the very thing that they eventually will become? Hell I might drink if or smoke a little somethin' somethin' if society tried to tell me that I was less than because of something about myself I could control. Actually, now that I think about... Shit I need a beer.

Thing is, if this high school class, even if they are on a certain level trying to stick it to the administration, can show respect and acknowledge these two girls for their relationship that tells me that down the road it might not be so hard to be homosexual in America. That's nothing but a good thing and these two girls are to be commended from their courage. They knew full well they'd take sh*t from closed minded people (though I doubt a national talking head ever crossed their mind in that regard), but stood and announced proudly who they were.

Good for them.

40. I actually think O'Lielly's first arguement was partly right
Yes, teens do vote for various things as a way of poking at the adults (the student body at my college once ran a can of spam as student rep on the grounds they didn't listen to us anyway). That's partly accurate. It's possible that part of the vote for this couple was for the sake of tweaking the adults.

The rest, Bill is full of shit as usual.

46. There shouldn't be anything like a cutest couple vote in school.
The schools should be about teaching our children academics and preparing them for college and life as an adult. When I was in high school I disagreed with all of the popularity contests like homecoming queen, prom queen, and all the crap the school made us vote on for the yearbook. It's all a bunch of irrelevant nonsense. The kids who should be acknowledged are the ones that perform well in their academics or sports or behavior or effort.

49. You are right - popularity contests exclude less popular kids.
I think America is unique in having high school yearbooks.

I am not aware of any other country that has a similar tradition. Maybe Canada?

I know that Class President is based on the British tradition of electing a Head Boy (or Head Girl). But part of the idea is to represent all the students towards the school management. So at least in theory - it's not all about "being popular".
