1. I didn't realize until recently -
that in Iowa and New Hampshire Hillary seems to be replicating the "listening tours" of her first senate campaign. She uses small venues and allows lots of questions.

The other thing she does that I noticed is that she allows the person asking the question to finish the question. She does not cut them off. Then, when she responds she generally calls the questioner by name.

These are not the kind of things most people notice at that time - but they leave the venue feeling good about her. She honors voters by really listening to them.

2. That is exactly right. Her campaign today, does remind me of those listening tours
And that's exactly how she won the hearts and minds of so many New Yorkers, including places in New York where people thought she didn't stand a chance.

She listened to people and their concerns, and she learned the issues affecting New York.

I will feel very good going to bed at night on January 20, 2009, with President Hillary Clinton in the White House.

3. Her habit of listening and then responding to
the actual question vs. sliding away from the question to launch a talking point written by a staffer (John Edwards has this problem) is very endearing.

Honestly, I think it is because of her gender that she is so good at communicating on the stump. Women just talk to others differently than men.

Well, that and the fact that she is such a policy wonk from way back. It seems that people don't really need to know all the details of her various plans - they just know she has thought about it, understands their needs, will research it and push it as far as she can. They trust her to know the right thing to do.

And a big Amen! to your last sentence.

4. I think one of the reasons that she answers the questions and has come across so well in the debates
and on the stump, is because she knows the issues.

She "does nuance" as the old saying goes. She's not afraid to delve into the details of an issue.

Richard Clarke has said before that one of the first things the White House staff was told when Bush arrived in 2001, was that he was not a big reader. That was the message Bush wanted to send when he first arrived: he doesn't like to read.

I doubt White House staffers will be getting that same message, if Sen. Clinton is elected.

6. Well she helped get us into Iraq and stay there...
If they still trust her to do the right thing, maybe they ought to take a closer look at her record and plans. Of course, some of us thing lining the pockets of defense contractors and insurance companies is the right thing to do, but I disagree.

Every single day.
