This week Max Keiser and co-host, Stacy Herbert, discuss European gold wars and the brokers at the Chicago Board of Trade telling others to get a job while they can't even do the one job they have. In the second half of the show, Max Keiser interviews James G. Rickards about his new book - Currency Wars: The Making of the Next Global Crisis.

3. If we become so desperate, if our currency becomes so worthless,
we will just top buying new stuff. We will start trading food for food, labor for labor, and people will leave the cities to scavenger on the corporate farms.

Gold may be relevant to trade between nations, but it is quite impractical for trade between Walmart and its customers, or my neighbor who have chickens and me and my vegetables.

During the depression, a lot of day-to-day exchanges were barters for goods and services. No currency needed.

My cow's milk for your hen's eggs.

Woe to those who think they will be able to make a living from their MBAs if it comes to that.

And the elderly -- well we just suffer, go live with our kids (hoping they will be kind enough to take us in), or die.

Carrying around gold coins, having to weigh them every time you buy or sell something? Forget it. It is not likely to work for very long.
