Spirits, and spirit fingers, are high at day 19 of Occupy Columbia! We are pleased to be releasing our first ad, and hope to have it, or a similar version, running on television in South Carolina in the near future. This ad, The People's Lobby, focuses on the narrative of our creed:

We the occupiers, declare the political system broken,
We are the people's lobby, We are the 99%!

Additionally, Mayor Steve Benjamin spoke with occupiers last night about safety concerns and will speak on our behalf to relevant parties about easing restrictions on the use of tents by demonstrators. We the Occupiers thank Mayor Benjamin for his desire to see us exercise our first amendment rights without undue risk of harm.

Lastly, we are thrilled to announce that our presence during last night's City Council meeting regarding the development of a big-box store at Bombers Stadium has paid off. We marched roughly one hundred people from the State House to the meeting and made our voices heard while living up to our goals of civility and respect. The City Council has agreed to our requests that they slow the process down and increase transparency. This fight will continue, but today we both thank and congratulate the Occupy Columbia Economic Development Committee for taking all of us a step in the right direction!
