4. Clearly an important point you have made there
- thanks for clearing that up, because having watched that video about the barbaric assault on the world in maintaining the American Empire thats what I took away from it - footage from more than one American war was being used - jesus christ.

6. Thank you.
I didn't notice any Afghanistan references. The video features IRAQ Veterans Against the War.

Thanks for replying to the above member.

One thing I take from the video is that We The People voted for an end to the fripping wars. ALL OF THEM.
And that's what we were promised. So. One more liar in DC. ho hum

I already knew we were acting WORSE than Barbarians in the world at large. Even being just an observer
of the atrocities makes us victims of (a lesser form of) terrorism.

18. Every word spoken in this video is ABSOLUTELY TRUE.
We must stop these greedy billionaire war profiteers from their killing sprees. We must make our voices heard loudly and clearly.

Join us on the Mall in front of the capitol this October.

I only wish I could recommend this more than once!

28. I would assume that the clips on Afghanistan are there because
Edited on Mon Aug-29-11 02:51 PM by JDPriestly
that war is tied to the war in Iraq. Some of the soldiers move from one battleground to the other.

If after ten years, we still have not destroyed Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, then we should admit defeat and figure out another strategy to protect ourselves from that particular terrorist group. That war is not succeeding. It is not meeting its goals.

If during the past ten years, we have destroyed al Qaeda in Afghanistan, then why are we still there? Have we found ourselves a new enemy, a new justification for the slaughter and destruction?

And if we want to help Afghanistan build a democracy, why don't we forget the soldiers and work with them in peaceful ways -- and only to the extent that the people really support our efforts?

We are ramming our figurative head against a wall with these wars -- and losing lives, treasure and our nation's soul in the process.

29. Many Americans do not live within driving distance of D.C.
and can't afford to get there by plane. We don't have much rail -- so demonstrations in D.C. are a good idea, but they automatically exclude a vast number of Americans.

34. War Voices Posted, to: Staff, In Washington D.C. on October 7th
From the Iraq Veterans Against the war web site:
In Washington D.C. on October 7th, we will be marking this commemoration of the Global War on Terror with a unique forum, War Voices, which will bring together people directly impacted by U.S. militarism and the U.S. war economy with ally groups, as well as writers, musicians, and artists. Through story-telling, workshops, discussions, and cultural performances, we will build our power as a movement by meeting one another, building relationships that will inspire us for the long haul, envisioning new directions for the future, and planting the seeds for structures of mutual support and solidarity that will allow us to create a demilitarized world. We will be providing a live webcast of the forum in D.C. for those who are unable to join us for the event. At the forum, we also hope to premiere new digital media featuring Afghan organizations talking about their work.

More and email contact address: http://ivaw.org/war-voices

Contact them to join in the occupation (I am Canadian, so maybe I can't really do it myself).

was commissioned four months prior to 9/11. Any kids who were 8 y/o at that time are now eligible to "volunteer".
I want to do activism at enlistment offices. I don't know why more of us don't do that.

30. War is glorified to kids using wildly popular video GAMES.
Often by the time these"average" young people are (barely) old enough to enlist they do, IMO because (among other reasons);

1) They have been desensitized and even gratified (when they "win") by the "games" that glorify war and killing. Even after they join the real wars, many are able to kill people remotely. Using drones, artillery, etc. many "troops" never have to get physically close to the killing. Hell, it is just like playing another video game. I know this is not true for most infantry soldiers, they usually see death "up close and personal." I imagine that the majority of the anti-war veteran organizations are infantry soldiers.

2) The military is one of the very few, decent paying jobs available to "average" young people. There are not many(any others?) employers that pay $30,000 annually with complete benefits for young people who can't even afford to attend college. In fact, college is the ultimate goal of many of these soldiers. They can borrow $100,000 to attend a mediocre university and earn a degree in a field (that is usually not hiring) or they can earn good money, free medical, dental, vision, housing, food, etc., and after their contract is finished they can attend college for free (they earn it) or re-up until (hopefully) there are civilian jobs to train for.

3) They are brainwashed from an early age to believe that America is the greatest country on earth. Most of them can not afford to travel to different countries and believe what they are taught. Our schools are not geared to produce independent thinkers. They are taught to the test, very standardized. Sadly, they too have been let down by a society that is supposed to educate them to be rational and independent thinkers. Instead they are constantly bombarded (especially by the MSM) to believe that "if we don't fight them there, then we'll have to fight them here." They do believe that they are protecting their country and loved ones. Mostly they are protecting the profit of corporations.

Our country's logic has been replaced by dogma and and lies. Only the few elite young people (there are exceptions), those that can afford to be "educated" by observing their wealthy peers, their profiteering elders and learn how easy it is (if you have the money) to control the masses for profit and so, often become manipulating sociopaths, like they are trained to be.

This is now America, not a lot to be proud of...

25. I get angry when pro-war activists ask me if I'd rather we not fought the war
Edited on Mon Aug-29-11 12:06 PM by Rozlee
and Saddam was still in power. Back in my first tour, I saw Iraqi women wearing makeup, Western type clothing, and driving cars. My daughter is in the Coast Guard and has had several tours teaching Army personnel how to obtain a variety of HazMat certifications. She's told me of no longer seeing women wearing anything but veils and long skirts, no longer driving and having to be accompanied everywhere by male chaperones. With billions going in for reconstruction, she says the place looks worse every time she goes back. Considering how many Iraqi lives were lost as well as American ones, how Iraq went from the 21st to the 12th century, how the Shiite clerics have a strangle hold on the country and have basically imposed Sharia law with the tacit approval of the ruling "democratically" elected leaders, I can say with certainty that I don't believe the country is better off because we invaded it. A Shiite recently took a video of himself proudly hanging and castrating his gay son, eventually killing him to the cheers of several spectators. I read somewhere that while Hussein was alive, Baghdad even had some gay clubs. Now, gay and "effeminate" men are hunted like spectator sport.

26. oh god
I hurt for those people. There is no excuse for what The Evil Doers have done to Iraq, and indeed everywhere they set their sights.

There's a theory that stone age, religious fanatics are 'easier to control'.

Our ancient societies built great cities and wonders. All The Evil Doers know is Destruction.
If there is a devil, it is them. The Destroyers.

it's that we can speak our minds. Your allowed to say this is wrong. go to Libya and you get an anchor woman with a pistol in her hand. That just won't work here. Iraq was a mistake Libya isn't yet. Can't say I agree with every soldier on the video. But it's a great collection
