I am 56 years old and I am tired of talking about what we need to do to stop the corporate takeover of every aspect of our lives. Even more, I am fed up with hearing myself and others complain about what others are or are not doing to make things better or worse. I am ready to DO SOMETHING. I have decided to join in the action on Freedom Plaza and to do my part to get the word out about it, I am going to walk from my home in WV -- 200 miles -- to participate. In this video/interview, Paul Jay asks David Swanson why jobs is not on the top of the list of grievances on the october2011.org website. Perhaps it ought to be, but there are so many things to be concerned about and we need to have a coalition of people to be successful. If we highlight jobs, maybe the environmentalists, women's rights and LGBT activists will stay home. We need hundreds of thousands of people to show up.
It is easy to rile the tea baggers -- just tell them a rally is about "government and out of control spending" and a dozen of them will show up. Then the media will cover it as though the Earth moved.
I felt the interviewer(who seems inexplicably to be a Ron Paul supporter?) was condescending. It is hard to get up the gumption to do something positive and when other progressives are dismissive, it feels even harder.
