Don't shoot me for posting a Ron Paul video -- or Chris Matthews, either. And I feel obligated to assure you I'm not a Ron Paul follower nor do I agree with many of his views, but:

The points Ron Paul makes in this video are those with which I think we all strongly agree. It's just refreshing to hear them so directly and succinctly from a presidential candidate.

3. he is the ONLY one of them that has his head on straight
and understands that the Constitution sets the laws for this country. The rest of him have absolutely no respect for the Constitution--quite frankly, I think that with the exception of Paul, they all should be hung, drawn and quartered for treason.

Bush on the Constitution: ‘It’s just a goddamned piece of paper’

Last month, Republican Congressional leaders filed into the Oval Office to meet with President George W. Bush and talk about renewing the controversial USA Patriot Act.

Several provisions of the act, passed in the shell shocked period immediately following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, caused enough anger that liberal groups like the American Civil Liberties Union had joined forces with prominent conservatives like Phyllis Schlafly and Bob Barr to oppose renewal.

GOP leaders told Bush that his hardcore push to renew the more onerous provisions of the act could further alienate conservatives still mad at the President from his botched attempt to nominate White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

“I don’t give a goddamn,” Bush retorted. “I’m the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.”

“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.”

“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”

I’ve talked to three people present for the meeting that day and they all confirm that the President of the United States called the Constitution “a goddamned piece of paper"

6. As far as I;m concerned...
Ron Paul is the only REAL republican in the race. the rest are "neoconservatives" which, if you dissect they're ideology, is really neofacism. I love watching the other guys twitch when he says this stuff. Unfortunately, he's right in line with the rest with regard to privatization, and pro-life, otherwise I might stand behind this guy. If only there were more republicans like him, a lot more would get done.

15. privatization or state run programs?
When he wants to do away with FEDERAL medicare programs, FEDERAL foodstamps and FEDERAL welfare he has supported creating STATE medicare, foodstamps, welfare etc. He has nothing agianst keeping infrastructure/public services public, he just thinks that the constitution delegates these powers and responsablities to the states and the citizens (counties, townships, municipalities etc.)

An example is your drinking water in the USA. roughly 9 out of 10 households in the USA gets public run drinking water. Here in France, a highly socialized country in many respects roughly 9 out of 10 households get drinking water from private companies. In the USA it is not the FEDEARL, nor often the STATE government, but counties, municipalities, regions etc. that run the water systems. The systems are not private, they are just not federal.

He also thinks that laws aginst drug possession should be left to the states as prostitution and gambling laws are now. (Great news for Alaska but not legalization, just an end to federal prohibition and federal aid for the drug war. Perhaps other states would then give up too but that is not automatic. He also thinks abortion is a states right issue but that Roe V. Wade was a constitutionally sound ruling that would require a constitutional amendment, which he wrote, to be overturned constitutionally. This, from my point of view, is a terrible position to take, but pragmatically I do not see how such an amendment would pass.

With him we would have no more wars, no federal war on drugs, no bs war on terror, not bad at all for a candidate from any party.

21. i wonder how they make a profit?
Where state run programs try to operate on a budget.Private groups here always want to profit to satisfy investors. Maybe if they use a cheaper process to filter the water?
Maybe they raise the amount of sewage allowed in the water? :P Sounds like a state financed monopoly to me.

But hey we get drugs and gambling!

31. cut out the private aspect
and run state programs by and for the people of the states. This should be our goal internationally as leftists whether we are talking on state or federal lines. How much of the federal budget gets spent on private contractors? Would it be easier to renationalize or to do away with the fed and start over again as 50 states? Should the USA have a union like today, or one more like the E.U.?

He's the worst candidate the Republican party has. Go read some of his own articles. There's obviously well trained spammers out there with rehearsed comments and responses. They think that once we think it's useless to argue with them they can say what they want. Go read the comments on youtube. They run everyone off so now they argue over what they like best about him. They tell you any thing they think you want to hear ."he's the anti-corporate candidate." Not by any stretch of the imagination is that comment true.

What pathetic cowards to sit there and not say what is wrong with this guy!

but he's delusional like all Republicans. If he thinks he can just dismantle all government run institutions and support systems for people that need them. That and creating a pay-as-you-go life style, where if you can't pay you don't go.
Now don't get me wrong, I love that he's the only Republican speaking the truth about Iraq, Iran and the Constitution, also I agree with getting rid of the privately owned Federal Reserve and its big fat greedy hands in our cookie jar!
But that's only a part of his fantasy Libertarian Utopia agenda.

And Soft Balls Matthews "A lot of people think like you, I dare not say I'm one of them"

16. getting rid of federal government to some extent
does not mean privitization. You can pass public power over to the states and keep them publically run and owned. Paul has stated many times that federally run aid programs should be replaced by state run programs. This is not good news for poor states if there will be no system of distribution of wealth from rich states but it is not a corporate takeover. States would be able to charge more in taxes as well if there were less federal taxes and if the militaray budget was cut, as Paul has suggested, the savings in taxes from any given state would outweigh the new expenses in running their own welfare/social aid programs.

standing up against this guy? Hello! Any Democrats here?
We need more moderation. There is nothing positive about this guy.
He's radically right wing ,as compared to just right wing like the other republicans.
And he's trying to use Democratic issues like the war to win the nomination.
And it will take you five minutes to find a lie by him or one of his supporters on the web.
So why in the hell would you believe a damn thing he says?
He is completely in favor of corporations running over the population in any way they might profit.
He makes the ferengi from star trek look like communists.
Did you know Libertarians want corporate run mcschools?(for those that can afford them)
The four food groups are now big mac ,fillet o fish ,quarter pounder and french fries.
Maybe popular culture will jostle some brain cells out there.
Go sell him to a Republican that way they are sure to lose.

Ron Paul is an ass - a big Texas sized ass. Luckily this moron does not represent me, but he does represent many other good Texans. No doubt that republicans in his district vote him in. They like the libertarian in him. But this guy is worse than Grover Norquist - he hates government - period. This a-hole even voted against funding the Katrina relief money and funds for Rita too. And Rita hit his district! He thinks everyone should bootstrap themselves up, even out of floodwaters. He thinks the government did nothing for him. He plays well to those selfish bastards who are all me, me, me. Fuck the common good, we're in it for ourselves!

I hope he does well enough that his ego convinces him to run as an independent. That way I think we could take votes away from the republican. Republicans that would not vote for a Democrat. He's not as good as Ross Perot but I wouldn't rule him out as a spoiler in Nov. 08 as an Independent. He appeals to the isolationists too.

Go check out Talking Points Memo for a recent fundraising letter he sent out.
Ron Paul puts his nuttiness in print

I don't need to tell you that our American way of life is under attack. We see it all around us -- every day -- and it is up to us to save it.

The world's elites are busy forming a North American Union. If they are successful, as they were in forming the European Union, the good 'ol USA will only be a memory. We can't let that happen.

The UN also wants to confiscate our firearms and impose a global tax. The UN elites want to control the world's oceans with the Law of the Sea Treaty. And they want to use our military to police the world.

One minute he's isolationist ,next he's sayin he would not regulate global trade.
I think we need more skilled jobs here in the U.S. and to stop outsourcing.
You only have to look as far as the last debate to hear him say he would not regulate global trade.
They think the answer to outsourcing is just like the answer for everything else.
to give them more money.
Every problem we have the answer is to give them more.
The problem is you take too much!

The Republicans are slipping this guy right under your radar.

43. There are some bad people as well as many good who are against the war...
e.g. Pat Buchanan; LePen; the British Nationalist Party.

Paul is right to be against the war, but he is against *all* taxes and welfare; against women's right to choose over abortion; has made some very homophobic statements; has made racist statements in the past; etc.

On social and economic issues, he is no liberal or even moderate.

I'd love it if he was their nominee, because then the country would have two candidates against selectively ignoring parts of the constitution. You are also right that being a libertarian he would stop short of busting any corporate balls. I don't know that I genuinely want him as president, however I'd much rather a president Paul than a president Ghouliani.

22. If your wondering why he's different, its because he's a Libertarian
Ron Paul use to be a Libertarian and although he joined up with Repugs, he's still pretty Libertarian. I like Ron Paul and I like the honesty of Libertarian's although I am a Progressive and we differ on economics, but we Progressives have everything in common with Libertarians on all other issues. Lets keep in mind that Libertarians believe that the army is only to be used for direct defense of the homeland, and not to be sent overseas to be doing the dirty work of a bunch of corporations. Also Libertarians are very socially liberal, wanting to get rid of drug laws and so forth. One thing you have to understand about him being Libertarian in that he is also a strict Constitutionalist and the Constitution does not grant things like social welfare programs to the Fed , but to the States so that is why he believes these programs must be done on the State level and honestly I agree with him on that issue because I think local control of welfare, and social programs will always be more effective and efficient than at the Federal level. Look how bad the Fed has fucked up every program they administer and look how badly FEMA did with Katrina, the proof is in the pudding. Of course Ron Paul cannot ever get elected and the reason is, he wants to pull out of Iraq immediately and he wants to give power back to the States and take it away from the Fed. Those two things right there alone will make sure the Repugs will never nominate him. The Republicans are about power , pure and simple and they will never allow any of it , period, be taken away from them on the Federal level. Most importantly he makes everyone else in the Republican party look like a bunch of idiots because he is well spoken and makes other Repugs around him look stupid.

He's nowhere near a Democrat. He's a complete sell out to the corporations. You can't get a word in to dispute anywhere on the internet.Like I say he's covered wikipedia, youtube ,google and every other source of info on the web. Read the comments on youtube. You can't tell what he believes at all!I guarantee any position he takes now will be invalidated by his own internet posts because he has flip flopped so much. Some say he's socially liberal .Then publically make statements confirming it instead of side stepping issues. His wiki page does say he is against abortion which is not a Democratic position. And he is opposed to regulating internet ,which means he is against net neutrality (remember that?). Democrats have always supported personal freedom. Why would any of them trust a lying Republican over a time tested Democrat? His tactics are typical Republican. We don't have to hand over our country to corporations to get out of this war.We have WORKING people who need assistance because pay has not kept up with the cost of living. But there's labor markets and theres real estate markets and theres retail business etc. ,etc., all getting rich off these poor people. What does he plan to do about that? Give the markets more money,of course. When people need help its a loss any way you look at it. There's no way for a county as a whole to profit from that.We need to make americans less needing of help somehow. Leaving them high and dry does not cause them to try harder and find a way ,they will just need even more .Thats just a bunch giving others advice by patting themself on the back. They know theres no way to do this without cutting into someones profits. And I'm not lying and propagandizing I'm speaking from my heart and experience.

Sometimes when you want money and you don't get it you learn to do without. And sometimes those that do get it never learn anything, and never get enough.

The Democrats can get us out and get our country back.

like I say he's a Republican ,even worse, a Libertarian.
