2. Wow, what a contrast between Sen. Biden and what we've got now.
It's a damn shame that this man isn't at the top of the heap presently. We have to rely on America's discerning skills. I pray that we come to our senses in time to win this thing. Out of all the candidates running, a Biden presidency makes the most sense at this critical point in our nation's history. Thank you for sharing this, Gateley.

8. Couldn't agree more.
In the long run, Biden is a sensible politician. He certainly has more experience than any of the others running.

3. Joe Biden is not THE "education candidate."
His positions are very good, and I've applauded them more than once. He's one of 3 candidates who have strong, positive public ed stances: Richardson and Kucinich do, as well.

That would make Biden "ONE of the education candidates," if we want fairness in labeling.

While I appreciate Biden's strengths, and think education may be at the top of those for me, referring to him as "THE education candidate" is off-putting.

With that expressed, I'll also say, again: As an educator, I like Biden on education better than all but Richardson and Kucinich, who are also quite good.

4. Fixing (college) education is going to require cutting out profit for Del-incorp'd credit companies.

6. Probably had to do with the student loan industry
Student loan companies have easy targets on college students these day. They feed off our future by putting graduates into years of loan debt. It's sick. And if we ever wanted to fix the situation, such as providing free or low cost college level education for our people, I have no doubt these loan companies will push back because that would be taking away their cash cow.

7. That makes sense.
One of the reasons why I support the Universal pre-school through college offered in DK's plan.

Coming from working poor people, I know too much about the choices we have to make after community college. Community college is reasonably affordable, although even that is beyond the resources of some. It was free when I attended to get my AA in the 80s in CA; all I had to pay for were text books, and even those were a tough stretch. If it hadn't been, I might not have gotten even that far.

When it is time to transfer to a 4-year school, though, it has to be financed. I'm 47, and I just paid off all the student loans 2 years ago.

The door slams in the face of many at that point, because they simply are not able to take on the debt. While I did, my sons grew up watching me work during the day and go to college at night, and watched me, even after I graduated and got the desired job, struggle for years to pay back the loans. They both chose to quit at the AA, leaving me still the only person in my family, on either side, in any generation, to do more than that. My mom and my sons are the only ones other than myself to go to college at all.

Equal opportunity for education is a worthy goal.

9. After all the hard work and dedication it takes to complete college, the burden
of having the student loan hanging over your head is just wrong.

I really would like to see our government pay for a 4 year degree for everyone who wants one. I would happily pay taxes to support a measure like that.
