CNN host Fareed Zakaria said that 'liberals need to grow up' and that progressives believe in a fantasy that president Obama can give a speech to fix America's problems. The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur couldn't disagree more.

1. Fareed, for being a smart guy, you really need to buy a clue on this one

The reason Obama ran on "Change you can believe in" was because we needed CHANGE badly, and he played our song. If he didn't believe in any of those campaign promises, then why did he make them? After decades of the working people watching bill after bill after bill being passed for the benefit of corporations and the very upper class, we don't NEED a centrist or a pragmatist for that matter. I want to see Barack fight for the things he campaigned on.

Fareed , I realize that you have conversations with the president, so maybe you can ask him this? Barack, with the rich taking all of the gains over these many years, why are you trying to cut SS and Medicare now? Mr. President, why didn't you go to Wisconsin and stand with the working people like you said you would?

I used to think you were a bright guy Fareed, but if you don't understand our anger I'm afraid you have been drinking the Washington kool-aid too long.

2. Zakaria has been consistently wrong on every position he's ever taken.
So I'm not surprised he's wrong again.

3. I hope he's sent this video, hundreds of times. And he should view it just as many.

Although I doubt it would change his position. People like Zakaria have to know they're spouting bullshit, that's what they get paid to do. If he started to take a counter position to the conventional wisdom, then he would no longer be on the inside.

7. Cenk doesn't do much to counter Fareed's argument here.
Obama wanted to make sure that middle class people didn't end up paying higher taxes and he didn't want the cuts for the wealthiest Americans to become permanent. He got a 2 year extension of all tax cuts. Indeed, not perfect because we're still not generating the higher revenues that we know we need. But 100% of what the GOP wanted? Hardly.

On health care, we lost the public option we all hoped we'd have. But those of us who are under 25 will be able to stay on our parents' plans, insurance companies won't get to deny us for pre-existing conditions, and we won't have the free rider problem of people who don't buy insurance when they have the money. Granted, the Republicans helped water it down, but zero voted for it and it still passed. 100% of what they wanted?

We wanted Don't Ask Don't Tell repealed. Many on our side complained for a while that Obama could just up and do it with an executive order! What's he waiting for?! We got the repeal and we got it passed through Congress so that the next Republican President (which hopefully won't be for a while) doesn't overturn it with one stroke of *his* pen. Are we gonna hear that that's exactly what the GOP wanted?

I like Cenk, but he's clearly exaggerating here, and in doing so he's making Zakaria's comments look kinda accurate.

10. it is not a democrats vs repugs debate,. the corporatists always win!
they got to keep the excessive bush tax cuts,. and the rest of us got to keep being over taxed, and under serviced to support that,. not a good deal at all,.

they got more than they wanted on healthcare,. they got the governement to mandate that people buy and pay for PRIVATE FOR-PROFIT health INSURANCE,. not a real healthcare system,. something that covers everyone,. at least for a bear minimum of healthcare. total fail for Obama.

The do not give a flying fck through a rolling doughnut about any "social" issues like gay anything,. or abortion, or religion,. these are just distractions that are used to muddy the real issues of wealth extraction and power. Some how they use these non-issues to get support on the right from fools (mostly poor folks) that will vote for a corporatist that will continue to enact laws to keep the rich filthy at the expense of everyone else,. Cenk is not exaggerating,. you need to have dunk the Kool-aid to think Obama has done anything progressive,. or is even close to a centrist, he is a right wing CORPORATIST, as his action have shown.

The extension of Bush tax cuts is THE REASON Republicans were able to change the discussion to deficit spending. It's also one of the reasons our economy is tanking and our rating was dropped. It was a stupid idea then, and it's a stupid idea now to keep those tax cuts extended. And, yes, it's exactly what the Republicans wanted. Liberals got nothing from that deal.

On health care, President Obama started from the middle and gave us a center-right bill that was once introduced and supported by the Republicans. Hardly what the liberals wanted.

DADT is the one liberal victory that anyone can be proud of - just one.

And, why no mention of the debt deal - the thing that Zakaria and Cenk are actually talking about in this video?

President Obama has given Republicans 75% of what they want, while liberals have gotten almost nothing. Cenk is right. You're just a cheerleader.

25. Glad to have someone agree.
It's fine to be disappointed in some of what's happened under Obama, or to wish he could have gotten us a better result, but we need to have the maturity to recognize what he's accomplished and how much worse off we'd be under a Republican, or even many other Democrats. When our side responds to Fareed Zakaria by attacking him personally and falsely claiming that Obama has given Republicans everything they want while failing to deliver anything for us...well, we sound like we need to grow up.

26. Yup
whatever happened to changing one's views whenever presented with new facts? This rigid adherence to all things anti-Obama, in spite of evidence to the contrary of many things they claim, is very much something I would have expected only from the Tea party and not from "enlightened liberals".

I guess myth is myth. Whether it is the myth that republicans are fiscally conservative or that liberals are generally more enlightened. There is always going to be members from (any) group who fall prey to herd mentality.

8. recurring liberal fantasy?
What, that the president would do what he said he would? Protect the middle class from the banksters? Be on our side for union wages? Create jobs rebuilding the infrastructure of the country? Yeah that was a fantasy.

13. Fareed Zakaria
is a conservative, as is the mainstream media, which consistently pushes a conservative view point. Notice how they all say its congress's fault for the downgrade by S&P? No it is the fault of the republicans but they will never say what their corporate master don't want them to say. I've said it many times to my friends, most of the newscasters on mainstream media are nothing but mouthpieces for their paychecks.
