The National Association to Advance Fat People Acceptance is outraged over First Lady Michelle Obama's campaign to fight childhood obesity. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian discuss.

1. Fuck them.
I myself, in my later years, am carrying a bit too much "avoirdupois" and need to get up off my behind more than I do. I support what she's doing. Someone has to say it--enough with the burgers/fries/cokes, pump up the veggies, push away from the video games, and move your flabby asses, kiddos!

What a "misery loves company" bunch!

2. My sister is one of those people who you see on Maury. She has
done everything in her power to make sure her three daughters did not end up like her. Our family has a thyroid problem (with at least 3 people close to 7 foot, 3 overweight, and 2 that are too short) so it may not have been her fault or my mothers fault but it did not help. Was she discriminating against her own children when she advocated good diets?

4. Seriously????
Well, I would like to see more effort on this. It's all fine and good to keep talking about diet and exercise. But, this is clearly also a cultural issue when the average calorie consumption in this country is 3000 calories. We are lucky that the problem isn't even worse! We meed to advocate things like stand up desks (some companies have them), more walking paths and parks, a sugar tax(some candy is taxed some isn't I still don't know why some is and some isn't, just tax it all)on anything manufactured with sugar in it. Bring p.e. back to schools. Encourage parents to sign their kids up for sports, if money is an issue offer scholarships for uniforms, travel fees, ect...

Just telling people they need to lose weight and or exercise more isn't enough. Our culture needs to change if we expect to see lasting results.

5. Biggest problem these days is time. Parents work to damn much to promote a healthy
existence for themselves or their children. If u are working until 5pm, then have to go home and check on homework and cook dinner and pack the kids away bu 8:30 for the next day, when do u take a walk? When do u go to a gym? These days many get off work and have to go to a second job. The kids are in their own if old enough, at daycare or grandmas for the most of it.

And now, food costs are thru the roof. Sadly, it's cheaper for a happy meal or a pizza for the table than it is to cook healthy fresh veggies and chicken or fish. And many families have a day or 2 built in where that's dinner because they get home late and are tired.

And then some kids live in a "war zone" they can't go outside. It's too dangerous. After school programs r the first on the chopping block. And then their are the dead food zones where people don't have an option of fresh anything.

If we don't care to regulate healthcare or change work laws to drop working hours and demand a living wage, then we don't have much hope in a feel good get moving campaign. Society norms have to change to expect a healthy lifestyle in the home.

6. Mixed emotions here. Remember how targeted we felt when
Nancy Reagan declared war on us stoners? :sarcasm:

Seriously, this is just another way to oppose Obama. Whatever he says, or in this case Michelle, they're going to find a reason to be against it.

8. the group doesn't deserve to be ridiculed like that
they're making a serious point that Cenk and Ana are deliberately missing.

When I was a kid, the only time grownups talked about fat kids was to tell us not to tease them. It was, that's the way they are, they can't help it.

Now, maybe it's changed, maybe like this group says, the grownups are telling the kids it's not ok to be a fat kid. I understand, it's different now, there's way more obesity now, so that's the thing. So it does have a benefit, it can really help some kids. But I'm thinking, there's always going to be fat kids, what about them?

It makes me think of school reform. Maybe some kids can benefit if they have these great schools, but what about the rest of the kids that don't get in?

It also makes me think of unfettered capitalism. Yeah it's really good for some people, congrats for the people that succeed, but what about the people that fail? Regardless of whether it's their fault or not.

Yeah, I'm a bleeding heart, sue me.

9. It's A "Sock Puppet' Folks ...
.

Really? Hey folks, are you going to be surprised when it is pointed out that "The National Association to Advance Fat People Acceptance " is being financed by a Koch Brothers front organization? The National Association to Advance Fat People Acceptance is a 'straw man' whose whole position is arguing the absurd.

One can rest assured, that when Mrs Obama comes out in favor of breathing, a Koch Brothers front organization would come out using the Addams Family arguing that dead people do not breath so 'the governemt' was for discriminating against dead people.

12. This was never an issue...
...until a BLACK First Lady brought it up.

And while I agree that one shouldn't make fun of fat people, I have to agree with the first commenter and say "Fuck them." in regards to NAAFPA. Fuck them SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hard.

Telling the next generation of kids that "It's OK to be fat!" isn't doing them any favors.
