1. Thank you, Ruby. Armstead has posted some radio
links -- says you really can't grasp the magnitude unless you're (virtually) there.

Here's the link to the links: :)

gone bonkers, it can happen anywhere.

9. These people are not the 'very proper British'
Don't insult us. The people in this video are opportunistic thugs, who are looking for an opportunity to steal electronics and get into other mischief.

15. It is a symptom.

Like the riots after the MLK assassination, riots are what young people with no hope, young people with no chance of a future do. It is always the weakest links that breaks first. So, the poor, the criminally trained (trained by society), will lash out first. They have nothing, they might as well take from those who have something.

You can NOT allow your young no future and expect them to remain passive.

I agree, this is wrong. I don't think this will solve anything. But it is merely a symptom of a serious illness.

18. No insult intended, so I apologize. I DO take exception with
your description of the rioters -- "thugs looking for an opportunity to steal electronics and get into other mischief".

I think any people who rise up like this, do so out of despair and frustration. They feel suffocated and oppressed, and just act out. It can happen to any of us given the right circumstances, and your judgment of them is pretty disturbing. Very disappointing.

5. Perhaps they should tax the rich instead of starving the poor. The rich don't riot!

11. from the people trashing our economies, destroying our 401k's
destroying our middle and working classes, stealing our futures from us, crippling us with unemployment and shit salaries and making themselves rich doing so.

in my opinion the uk, like france where i live and the usa where i am from and most of the eu outside of scandanavia need riots like have been happening in greece and north africa. i am going to the g 20 in cannes where i live this fall and expect all hell to break loose but what do i know i have to get by on 800 euros a month base salary plus whatever i hustle, rent and utilities come to 600 euros so i gotta hustle, i am a teaching assistant and i cannot eat and pay my rent, can you imagine other people working triple the hours i work per week for only 100 euros more? my friends from wales tell me the coal valleys are fucked, they are proud to have rioted against the poll tax. i guess we are just wacko anarchists in many peoples eyes

17. No,
not wacko anarchists--brave and erudite, unwilling to remain enslaved by the Corporate Megalomaniacs who've usurped the US media, US politics, and the global economy.

12. this is about economic disaster,
having no hope for the future, being treated like shit, the shooting was just the spark that set it off. france could boil over at any moment too.

20. I think "boiled over" describes what happens perfectly. This
could happen anywhere, to anyone for the reasons you cite.

21. You seem stuck on the fact that kids are taking stuff,..
The issue is much larger than that. As everyone here keeps saying, it has to do with the powerlessness created by a one sided system that spirals wealth from the masses, to the already wealthy few. As these greedy power-whores take more and more, the people getting the short end of the stick, are loosing it,. and lashing out at the system that steals from them.

I am sure most reasonable people will agree with you that the smashing and grabbing is a counter productive act,. however it does illustrate just how far the greed have pushed it. This rioting will also spur other, more level headed, people to act. As they would like to maintain peaceable streets, etc.. Perhaps these reactions will being about change from this one-sided wealth to the wealthy corporate system.

We need to stop paying interest to banksters on debt created by elected politicians meant to keep the money flowing from the masses to the wealthy. Many alternatives exist to the current BROKEN monetary system,. we need to try one that does not base itself on debt,. and free money for banksters.

14. Actually... I thought it seemed
a little tame compared to a similar scene that might have erupted here in the US... (on both sides) I could envision a much more aggressive crowd, as well as a MUCH more aggressive police response. Heck look what can happen just after a football game for chrips sakes...
