Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) took to the floor of the Senate on Tuesday morning, August 2nd, 2011, to speak out against the Balanced Budget Amendment provision in the deal to raise the debt ceiling. Specifically, he criticized those who want to force a vote for an undefined change to the constitution without any opportunity for amendments in the regular process, whether in committee or on the floor.

2. Balance the budget first, prove it is sustainable for a decade, then we'll talk about an amendment.
Anything else is just more drowning in a bathtub far-right terrorist crap.

5. Balanced Budget what? "Undefined change"? Details please.........
I want to see an amendment to the constitution that removes partisan politics from the budget preparation process.

I am dreaming? Yeah, maybe. But I would still like to see a neutral process based on numbers and simple logic.

In any case, I would like to see details on any proposed amendment to the constitution that would hobble the nation if wrongly configured.
