The Great Recession was a disaster for American workers; but, for corporate CEOs, it was an opportunity to turn eastward in search of cheaper labor costs.

1. Jobs not just outsourced; increasing the number of H-1B permits, too
http://www.workpermit.com/news/2011-07-31/us/us-senators-push-for-skilled-immigration-reform.htm

The Senate Judiciary Committee's immigration subcommittee is attempting to push through legislation that would expand the H-1B visa system and grant green card work permits to foreign students who graduate from US universities with a science, maths, or technology degree.

During a Senate hearing, Senators Chuck Schumer and John Cornyn called for immigration reform that would allow more highly-skilled workers into the US. Schumer said that it doesn't make sense to educate foreign students and then not let them stay; Letting more foreign students stay would help boost America's economy.

Smith said tech companies would be forced to move jobs overseas if they could not find the staff they need.

2. Let's Be Careful Here And Not Racist
I want to say a few things
Firstly I do read alot of hateful commments here on DU sometimes about India whenever an outsourcing thread comes up.
I'm just being honest, let's not hate job accepters, that just doesn't make sense.
Let's just talk about the problem not those accepting jobs.

There are Australian firms outsourcing programming and database jobs to American companies and I rarely see anyone complaining about that.
But I do see alot of hate about people in India accepting jobs and I think that this is wrong.

It's wrong for companies to outsource yes, but the problem is HERE and NOT with the people in India.
just to put things in perspective.

I also have family in Michigan that owned their own business, hired americans but had to move their HQ to Canada because of too much money needed to meet compliancy standards because of alot of regulation.

I am all for regulation, but in an intelligent manner and that's not what we have now.
Now we have cronyism, people are lobbyied to form regulatory bodies and after much lobbying money cronies get those appointed but unelected positions.

I'm just saying, the problem is HERE not THERE!

4. Agreed! Greedy executives are to blame and anger should be directed at them!
Unfortunately, angry, frustrated and desperate people often lash out at the first target that presents itself, which will be Indian workers. Meanwhile, the executives responsible do a good job of remaining behind the scenes.

7. It's not personal
The problem is not the people who are benefitting from the greed of the corporations, but instead the corporations and their CEOs.

8. Really ?
The Australian jobs which are outsourced to the United States is not done because the US workers are scabs, it is done on a technical basis.

The jobs going to India are flat out due to scabs - non union labor. I think Americans have every right to be just as mad at these people as they do at the people sending them over there - that has always been the case.

Your position is that we should not be racist about this - while the corporations are making this a global issue why are we not able to make workers rights a global issue, why are we not allowed to make minimum wage a global issue, why should we fall silent while our jobs are taken by people who are willing to work for next to nothing (and do a really, really shit job on top of that mind you - I know about this, techie here).

Please explain why they can operate on a global basis of globalising the workforce, removing nationality, sovereignty and domestic rights - but we the workers still have to respect those things based on your personal moral high ground.

I can not begin to tell you how totally wrong you are - really, really, really wrong.

The people of America absolutely need to stand up and so no more, they need to tell the corporations, exeuctives and the people who are stealing their jobs this - the scabs.

Its just such passive crap which plays straight into the hands of those who are stealing your jobs to respond in such and obseqious pusillanimous manner - its just puerile.

Our military is justified in targeting the people of a regime, not those in charge, our corporations target the people and not those in charge, so do the politicians - wake up, get angry, get really, angry. Its not the fact they are Indians that should worry you - it is the fact that they are taking your jobs.

6. The problem is not with
working people here or there. The problem is with transnational corporations and free trade agreements. These businesses have no loyalties greater than short term profit. The are not charities. India has about 1/3 of the worlds poorest people, more than 2/5 of its population lives in abject poverty and 1/4 live on less than $0.25 a day. Globalization and American corporate outsourcing has done nothing to change any of that and will not if they can help it. What is developing in India is an imperial Corporate Raj.
