Seton Motley - President of Less Government, joins Thom. Children in Florida are screwed. Last year - Republicans in Florida leveled a 43% cut to their Healthy Families Florida program that provides assistance to expecting parents and newborns in an effort to curb child abuse and neglect. As a result of the cut - services were dropped to more than 3,500 high-risk families - and more than 5,000 children. But this year - Governor Rick Scott was given a life-line by the federal government to keep the program afloat - more than $8 million was available to Florida to continue home visitation services for at-risk children as part of the Affordable Care Act. But as you would expect from any diehard Republican nowadays - Rick Scott said no thank you to the funding because he has an ideological problem with "Obamacare." So is this what it comes down to for Republicans? - to hell with abused children - we need to take down the President?!

1. corpora-fascists
Corpora-fascist think tank talking heads are incapable of engaging in a conversation. All they can do good is filibuster.

Talking head bullies speaking on behest of corporate bully sociopaths.

God Bless you, Thom! Would be nice to get one of these fuckers in a fair and moderated formal debate setting some time.

THEY CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

2. Why is the private sector unable to compete with the government?
Is there something wrong with private sector business models? How many of those business models, especially in social services, rely on grants, government provided resources, and tax exemptions in order to stay in business?

3. Gosh...
Watching this clip reminds me that our media is all about entertainment AND misleading the hoi polloi. I have no interest in watching two men argue vociferously, using partisan propaganda to support their positions. I will not watch anything else that features either of these pathetic people.

5. Really?
Do you think your 1000+ comment status legitimizes your rude fly-by 'load of crap' rebuttal? Or, did you just need an excuse to use that graphic?

Throughout this financial crisis du jour, vital programs like Head Start (some info here and here), Pell Grants, Title I Grants, GEARUP, TRIO, School Improvement Grants, and a plethora of other education programs have been on the chopping block as our 'erudite' politicians struggle to 'balance our budget.' Why does Hartmann choose one relatively small program that helps less than 7000 children to make his point? Indeed, did he choose a children's program for some OTHER discernible reason? hmm...

And, why participate in a kerfuffle with a Republican bully over this program? What possibly can Hartmann accomplish? A vastly more informed audience? hmm...

How long are we going to whinge on this and other 'left-leaning' blogs about the ignorance, stupidity and utter incompetence of the sock puppets du jour infesting our nation's political offices?

We can ill afford all of these lovely pity parties, wherein we post clever and witty bon mots slamming pathetic people. Our global economy is crumbling faster than an oreo cookie in a toddler's mouth. Earth is SCREAMING in agony from the multiple burdens of our unfettered hubris. An astonishing number of our nation's depressed and disenfranchised children report that they don't expect to reach old age.

And, yet, so very many of us remain ensconced in front of our puters, in our comfortably air-conditioned homes, pouring out our anger and angst through our keyboards. (Oh, lest I forget, some of us--NOT me; the luckier ones who still have a job--open our checkbooks and give to 'noble causes.')

Time for change. PAST time for us to get off our collective asses, and hit the streets.

Freedom Plaza, October 6. Please pledge to be there. Locate long term parking options and alternate travel routes. Make a list of non-perishable foodstuffs you can use over the long haul. Encourage your friends, neighbors, and fellow activists to be there for the duration. Network with others who've made the pledge. PLEASE, put your time and energy toward this essential goal.

(That is, of course, if you're truly concerned about our children, and their growing fear of our species' imminent ecocide...)

6. this is not part of the debt ceiling deal - it's a FL state issue - a political axing by Rick Scott
furthermore, arguing with libertarians is Hartmann's trademark. if you don't care for his approach, there's plenty of other shows to consume.

8. My goodness...
I have been following the Rick Scott fiasco since before he took office, and much of his assault on public education is well documented by DU's own madfloridian. In short, I'm well aware that 'this' is 'not part of the debt ceiling deal' (which is beside the point).

I am not interested in Hartmann's 'trademark,' and you can rest assured I will not waste a moment more of my time watching his schtick.

7. Did anyone notice how his guest
Had an example of punching Thom Hartmann in the face? That's the GOP, for you. If they don't like what you say, "Just punch them in the face".
